Dogs on hunt: Booger, Sugar, Sadie
Catch dog: Jersey

Farmer called and said he saw a big hog on his turn row of the corn field late that evening. The next morning we loaded up n dropped about daylight. I was walking the turnrow n found a good track and a track that was unidentifiable. I was guessing it was a horse track. Sure enough 10 mn into the hunt the dogs were bayed 409 yds off the field into the thicket. It took us a while to get there but finally got to about 60 yards. The dogs were sitting back and hammering. We sent the cd in to seal the deal. Dad n I tore through there n he went to leg the hog. He got there first n was about 15 yards in front of me, but I could tell he was having trouble. When I got there I realized the foot was missing n he had a nub that was swollen up. We decided to knife him n we got to make a nice skull mount of him.

What you think happened to his foot judge? It was as clean of a cut as youve ever saw. I came to the conclusion he got caught up in a snare. Others said bear trap, but we do not have a bear season or anything else. Also never heard of anyone setting bear traps.

Before I got dogs I used to snare a lot and still do on occasion. Have walked up on snared hogs that had about sawed its hoof off and had others where we'd catch them around the snout and they'd pop their cutter and whetters out and slip the snare. I wouldn't doubt that hog got caught in a snare. Broke free with the snare still in its foot and it eventually just fell off from lack of blood.

had to have been a big old hog that did this. Pulled the fence post damn near out of the ground. And snapped the 7 wire twisted steel cable with the loop still locked down on him. Still haven't found the hog.
