Well bored sitting in the hotel so I guess I'll tell about this past weekends hunts. Friday night headed for college station to go meet a friend Jacob cantu and 2 of his buddies. Carried my kate dog. Met up at Jacobs house, got all the beer on ice and dogs suited up and we headed to Tyler Spielmans place in bryan. Tyler is the brother to Travis who passed a few years ago, they put on a big benefit hunt for him down in Devine. Heard nothing but good things about Travis and Tyler definitely is a good ole boy himself who loves hog hunting. Tyler was feeling and looking like hell but he wasn't gonna let us kick out without him. Sent 3 curs out and they struck right off the back of the tank like he said they would. Hogs scatter and everything splits up. We walk back to the creek and park it waiting for something to get bayed. Jacobs copper dog loops back in towards us and is hunting around down in the creek about 150 yards away and we hear the god awful growls. We all believed it was a bob cat and sure enough sounded like one. Kate and Waylon got bayed for a little bit at like 800 but we we held tight, wanted to see if ole copper would put the cat up a tree. 15 minutes or so pass copper barked and then we heard squeals. Get in there and he had him a pretty little boar pig hemmed up. As always though tore it up to bad so we killed it and back out waiting on kate and Waylon to show treed. They ended up going about 2.5 miles back the other way into a big place and got lost so we picked them up and called it a night. Woke up early Saturday morning and headed to navasota. Kick same 3 dogs out and they hunted good. Started cold trailing way out to the south so we laid up in a hay field and waited for em. They probably went close to a mile and a half, and pissed an hour plus away before they looped all the way back to the truck. Went 3-400 yards down this slough into a thicket and got bayed. We start heading to them and Jacob sees a good boar run right by the truck. We shag some ass up there and send the bulldog after him. All 3 bay dogs are hammering a group. 10 minutes go by, Mater the cd is 700 east and rolling on that boar and hogs start getting rough on the dogs. Hear some yelps and bay breaks. All 3 start heading west. Kate pulls out at about 600 and starts comin back. Sticks it out in the thicket and comes Bayed again at 250. Mater is still way out and not thinking about coming back so I tell them let's go to Kate, if it ain't too big I'll talk her on to an ear. Well get 40 yards from her and it breaks. I bet not 200 yards later she puts the woah on him. Gives one bark and hangs him. We got in there and got him legged and ended up being a pretty okay boar for one little stock dog to be catching.  Mater came back once we got him tied and we had to go get Waylon and copper like 4 miles down the road since they crossed highway 6 and ended up on a prison farm. Needless to say we were all happy Kate stuck it out and made sure we didn't go home empty handed. Good weekend with some good guys and good dogs. Jacobs copper dog changed my mind a little about an open dog as well!!!
