a couple of years back someone started a thread on air rifles...I posted why buy an air rifle when you can buy a real gun???
I think that about shut the thread down and I apologize for posting that...
a while back my two sons were saying we need to do more things together so we fish now and the...and go to my brothers to shoot and only one likes hog dogging...
so an idea came to me about something easy to do that could be fun and not expensive and can be done at home...since they like to shoot I was thinking air guns...they can be very pricey so I did quite a bit of looking and I found several I like for under 200 dollars...
for me I ordered the Ruger 22 air rifle 800 fps with the real lead pellets...
for my sons I ordered the Hatsan 95 for under 200 bucks each as well...all three guns are 22 cal...almost went with the 25 cal. but seems the ammo has to be ordered from the net...
the ammo I ordered and the pellet pen I ordered... x 3 of everything...the deal is that we will have about the same of everything at the start...and we can modify anyway we can on our own to improve accuracy...we will compete in my back yard when we can meet at the same time...one lives a little over and hour away and the other almost 2 hours away...my plan is something easy...not too expensive...plus I want my sons to learn that the little things can be of the most importance...not to mention doing something together with my sons...lord knows I made many mistakes raising the...
any of you out there already target shooting with air gun? if so please post what you do and what you have found to work the best...
these are the Christmas gifts I am giving them and myself...

Way to go on time with your sons. My son is 10 and I am 42, we shot but just the plain Dailey power master 880.

Reuben I used to shoot quite a bit and was a member of the International Lawn Steel Association I.L.S.A. it's a nationally recognized game my friends started it's a steel target betting game shot out of lawn chairs usually shot with iron site pistols small caliber being .357 and under large caliber .357 and larger.The range is three lines of targets at 50yds 60yds and 70yds.The targets are lollipops ,card suits and animals the front line is lollipops and the second line are the card suits third line is the animals.In order to get in the game you must call and hit two non animals.From there its a rotating line each player must shoot a non animal in order to get a animal shot if the player knocks down his animal target the line pays him a nickel or a quid.The reason I mentioned it was they also made a miniature version that we played with air rifles you should be able to look up the rules and regulations target sizes and number of targets online.Its a super fun game of sh@t talking and shooting.

Juan...thanks and good for you...the Ruger Impact can be found at Walmart for 137 bucks with good reviews...that might be a good surprise/Christmas gift for your son and yourself...and of course no less than a 22 cal...
LH...I will have to remember never to mess with you...lol

I got my boys those 22 cal air riffles when they where younger man did we have fun with em don't remember the brand seems they where in the 150 bucks range. Good tool for learning how to shoot properly

100 percent agree...I want my sons to learn precision shooting and this can be done in the back yard without having to go way out to the gun range... as a kid I grow up shooting quite a bit and most anytime I could get ammo...but everything we owned was open sights because that was all we could afford in those days... for deer season we had an ongoing account at the local hardware store and we could add to the tab...we usually bought 3 or 4 shells...the freeway/bypass and Walmart put those mom and pop operations out of business... when I got older and I could afford my own deer riffle the first thing I did was put on a good scope on it...and the first time I saw a good buck crossing that sendero in South Texas I couldn't find him in my scope quick enough...lol we were at deer camp that evening and I told my brother what happened and everyone had a good laugh...but my brother said he would loan me his 22 pellet gun with a scope on it...well I took the screen of the bathroom window and shot many a black bird stealing the dog food...then I went to cutting the wild onion stems with the pellets...that pellet gun with the scope trained me to be quick with a scoped rifle...and a better shooter... |

Juan...glad to hear you got a couple...after lots of reading there will be pellets that your gun will like for accuracy...the scope mount I think is ok...but the rings could be a problem...make sure to read the reviews and see what is working...they say the blue loctite is good to use on the scope assembly bolts... I am sure you and your son will have a blast... |

the 22 ruger yukon likes the Beeman kodiak in 21.14 grains...it does not like the 14.3 Beeman hunting pellets...
It also likes the Exact Jumbo Heavy Diablo pellets in the 18.13 grains. I will have to adjust the scope for the diablos...I will do that once I run out of the Kodiaks...I like the idea that the diablos are in the middle for weight which gives me a decent trajectory and knock down power...
My Beeman 22 is finicky as well...it likes the diablos and the hunting pellets but does not like the Kodiaks...
Juan...what are you shooting and which pellet guns did you buy?

I came across a link, cant remember it, but im sure a google search would yield the site. Anyways, there is an air rifle that runs off a compact scba tank and ranges out to 600 yds and punches a 3/4" piece of plywood. I think it was in .45 cal and he was using lead poured rounds. Im sure it would take down a deer at 200 yds, maybe a lil further out. He said he was using 3/4" plywood was bc the military used to use it for comparison to punch flesh and vitals. If it punched the plywood, it was strong enough to punch a body and cause enough damage to kill the target.

Charles...I checked out some of those videos you mentioned...pretty impressive air guns...
Amokabs...I bought pellets off of Amazon and the tin cans the pellets came in were all bent up...the containers were in a box rattling around...switched to pyramid air...the pellet container's were packaged tight...those guys understand precision shooting and know that bent pellets won't be accurate...they also have many how to videos on air guns/shooting so they know what they are talking about...it sure is nice when the pellets are consistently hitting the Bulls eye at 20 yards...l need a better scope to shoot further out...these old eyes need a little more help...
