Today I went into our backyard and found Newt dead. He was almost 14 years old and Chris just retired him a couple of months ago. Newt was the best strike dog I have ever seen and hunted behind. He was so dependable.  He never caught the hogs, only to stop them. He was only cut twice in his entire hunting career.  He was like a best friend to Chris.  That damn dog found more hogs than I could ever count. His last one he found was probably about 2 months ago.  Not sure. I am writing this for Chris because I really don't think he can.  We do have 2 pups out of Newt and one of them, Dan, is our lead dog now.  He hunts just like his dad and looks just like him too.  I am not sure if Chris will keep hunting after he gets home and has to bury his "best friend".  Either way, Newt lived a long and happy life and trained hundreds of dogs for us and other people.
  RIP Newt  10/30/1995 - 10/20/2009

Hate to hear that about a good old dog. I dread the day when I find my Dixie dog like that. She is living out her retirement on my back porch and lose in the yard. Hope its a LONG retirement............
