went out again with same to guys(on of them brought their dad this time). we cut the dogs loose about 630-700 dogs were bayed 10min later. the hog broke, but they dogs ended up stopping her about 5min later. she started in the woods and ran to an "open" field, catch is that the "open" field was filled with stickers and briars it just didn't have any trees..lol. when we got to the sow she was rooted up under a thicket and dogs were taking turns pulling fur. the catchdogs were solid, but the bay dogs were taking turns..lol. after 5 or so minutes i was able to grab the back legs pull her out and flip her. she went around 110 or so. the dogs busted her up(or so we thought) so we drug her out and the told me i could take her for meat.
we went to check some traps and we had a nice little boar in the trap. we let the catch dogs in and the fight was on. that boar was at least 50+lbs smaller than the sow we caught but he had 50+ times more fight.after the catchdogs did their thing we tied him off and hunted some more.
didn't get on anything else but we had both those hogs about 1.5hrs into the hunt, the rest was gravy. the dogs got on some tracks here and there but nothing panned out. was another good hunt.
my dogs did well. sye stays with the back and now runs the bay. he is more of help dog than anything right now. he will get and search up the tracks but he is a little late on working it out the right way. just as he is getting the right direction one dog will open up then he is head up to the bay. kristen still isn't hunting yet, but she will now roll to a bay. she is getting better about baying up when she gets there and actually got in and pulled some fur on that sow we caught. so it's been two good weekends for the dogs. i can see the confidence grow and i can see improvement from week to week.
got the sow in the garage now, gonna string her up, dress her and soak her in ice in a little bit...
