With so many of the bloodlines and knowledge of them being lost with the older dog men, I was wondering if anyone would like to help build a “encyclopedia” of sorts of the different lines of the breeds. I’m a dog man, ran coons, work cattle, treed squirrels..I just like working and being with dogs like most of us here. Would anybody be willing to give us little bits of knowledge that you’ve got? We all know the big ones (I.E. Ladner, Weathford Ben, July hounds, Pocahontas Plotts) but Therese’s inevitable more and more that knowledge of will be lost. May be a little wild, but I figure if there is anywhere a guy could find folks willing to chime in, would be here. Thank y’all, and look forward to hearing from you cats.

Are you wanting the different lines of pure bred dogs or crosses? I know around these parts there’s several lines of cur dogs that have been bred for years.

That would be a mighty big list.

But I'll contribute to Cameron Blueticks

I was thinking just pure lines, but all pure lines started with a cross somewhere so we might as well just dive in. I know some lacy stuff pretty well, but most of my knowledge is cow dogs lines. Lol. I’ve just ran mutt dogs on pigs, but like I said, I think we ought to build up a good bit of knowledge to pass along to the ones who come next. Might sound crazy, but to hell with it.

A few years ago, on the Cur and Feist Board, there was a lot of material put on that would help you get started on Blackmouth Curs. If you are willing to spend the time to do this, I will help you. There are a number of people on this board who have knowledge of lines of dogs that they and their friends have bred and used.  Where are you located?

CL is the Cur and Feist forum still up and running? You are right about there being a bunch of information on it. WAH -17 you can find pockets of information on certain` lines of dogs,  sometimes It is hard to find the right people that know the dogs and are still around to tell the story. CL is one of the people that knows alot of dog history.

Doc, I’ve started to write down the history and such from that forum you sent me. All kinds of information, I was shocked to see some of the names I know in the cattle world listed on there. Lol.

Grit, yes sir. The forum is there, but it’s a ghost town for the most part. CL is helping as much as possible and we are going to have to sit down and work on it. But we will get there. Luckily, I’ve got the patience of a saint when it comes to stuff like this. We will start as much as we can with the cur lines, (the hound lines seem to be much more documented from the competition world.)

Not going to help this cause but I downloaded a pedigree Database software on my laptop just for this reason, at least for our dogs, mainly bc I literally used to get headaches when figuring up relations between two dogs and who was who and what was what and mainly for the simple fact that if something happened to me the history of what I’ve put together would be lost with me, now it’s all saved and I can do mock matings to see the COI and COR and what I can look to expect out of a litter, it’s real neat and fun to play around with...

That’s awesome Goose. What’s the database? What are you raising yourself?

It’s the Pedigree Explorer software, may be a newer version I’m not sure. It’s handy as a pocket knife, we just breeding raising and using some dogs that work for us and get the job done consistently, they’re a cross of some local stock bred curs that have been bred up around here, no big names anyone will know, we started crossing a certain male dog off a tight family of running walkers and breeding around them dogs, I’m actually breeding around the ancestors of the stock dogs...

Those running walkers are pretty cool. I’m not a fan of walkers on coons, but if you’re running them on stuff to run down, that’s the win there.

What Black Mouth bloodlines are you wanting to know about. I know a good bit about the Ricky Driver dogs. They started Ben Jordans dogs, Clue Andersons dog, my dogs, Weatherford Ben dogs and more.
