That's really nice cajun. I hope you built it without any misses in it, lol. An anti hot nail hammer

Thanks guys. Tried it out today. Worked like a charm. Drove real nice with a nice balance and wrung nails cleanly. I was pretty tickled with it being my first attempt to make it. T-dog, There is no such thing as a anti hot nail hammer. lol As long as they keep breeding these thin walled horses, there is always a chance of driving a hot nail. What I hate is when you are driving a nail and the horse pulls his foot a little and you hit your thumb. I need a anti thumb hammer. haha

I made a wooden wedge out of the handle material and used the lag bolt to make a steel wedge. I put the wooden wedge in first and put the steel wedge in across the wooden wedge if that makes sense. Kind of like a cross of wedges. The handle is pretty secure. I was not sure how well it would wring nails off but it does so very cleanly without the nail getting hung up.

Yes. It is one ounce lighter then one of my old hammers. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200924/4832a7c9dccce573e0ec730289459009.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200924/e38ce565b227c966848c52b4da2054be.jpg) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I should have figured that out, as I have installed countless handles in various things duh! now another question, I have always saw and used the style of hammer that is shown to weigh .78, what is the advantage of the long faced hammers like you made? They always looked to me like they would be a littler harder to strike with, although I have never used one.

The old traditional hammer weighed 7.8 ounces and the newer one weighed 6.8 ounces. I don’t know if there is a advantage of one style over the other but the newer hammer has more weight in the head and drives nails like a heavier hammer. It really boils down to what you get used too. Besides that new hammer is pretty doggone sexy looking. Lol time will tell but so far I really like it and the balance. ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200924/c7749bdc68dda1c5a81f0cbc5ece02d9.jpg) I had to go get it out of the truck to take a side by side picture so you can see the size difference.
