Few weeks ago at my private spot I kicked out slick, Bobby and buck. They go a good ways and work around a pond on the edge of a old cut over. Slick opens up some and they start easing along. They take it a few hundred yards and slick started hanging up in the edge of a pasture. He sometimes gets binded up.thankfully buck and Bobby either winded the hog or just moved out enough to cut the track again. They fall back onto the low spot on the other side of the pond where it’s swampy. About the time I got close enough I could hear squeeling. So me and joker rush in around the pond levy and ease down the hill. As me and him were walking toward the real tall aqautic vegetation I notice something slip back into it. My dogs were caught 80 yards away. I started looking around and listening and this hog was growling at me. It felt like King Kong looking out of his cave. I tried and tried to see this thing but he finally went on and I sent joker to the caught hog. I found a easy way around the weeds that I could still see my feet and got it dispatched. In a hurry to beat the heat I whistled the dogs on and on the track. It wasn’t long and slick had it started Bobby and buck were on its butt. Several times they’ve were looking at it. I’ve ran this hog before I believe and he is smart. We were finally putting heat on his ass. My pup was old enough to really help and take lead. For a couple of minutes after the jump it was sounding promising. Until the hog started taking his regular route, which runs along a woven wire fence. I’m running around trying to keep up with the race and while catching a breather I seen on my garmin slick was the only one making way and buck and Bobby somehow got on the other side of the fence! I quickly got Bobby back under and sent him on and finally buck. We ran him until it was to hot and I got the dogs caught. I figure I’m gonna have to leave my puppy trainer slick home and I hope I can one day catch him with the dogs I raised last year. They put enough pressure on him to keep him on the right side of the road until they got stuck.

Those ole wise hogs are hard not to respect and appreciate. He’s smart but he’s teaching those young dogs at the same time without realizing it. He doesn’t have much of a choice though. On a high note, at least you didn’t get anything hurt and still not get him, that’s frustrating. Sounds like the young dogs did a good job of pushing through and not staying hung up. Anytime I’ve seen dogs get hung up like that, it seems like it was either young dogs or dogs with a heavy hound influence.  Not knocking your dog, just an observation I personally experienced. If I had to hunt a “pure” bred dog it would be a hound. I have no doubt you’ll get that hog and your pups will make you proud.

I agree. He can really put a rock on his head. I’ve seen him do it a few times especially with these young dogs bumping along with him. And sometimes they will catch the hog or jump it before he does. Sometimes I even beep or vibrate him on just so he’ll do something different. He doesn’t really give them nothing,  I’m glad I got some finally participating fully with him, that is trying to run the track true.
