blue wound spray

 One of my dogs got cut the other day. She is on some anti-bio. I used some of that blue spray. She licked a bunch of it after I put it on. She is now drooling like a rabid skunk. Should I be worried? Other then that she seems fine.

Nevermind on the drooling. After she ate she was fine, no more drool.

It wont hurt them except for the imediate burning when you spray it on. 

I did have a vet tell me a while back not to use it as it causes the wound to scab and harden up and hold in fluids that need to drain. Makes sense to me, I have started using furizone and have been pleased w/ it. Keeps the wound greesy like neosporin.  I know that isnt what you asked for but thought I would throw it out there.

Did the cut have to be stapled or stitched?

On nicks and cuts that our dogs get here and there I use Scarlet Oil if they can't get to them to lick them. However, as long as they can lick them, they seem to heal faster if I just let nature do her thing and try not to interfere. If it's a pretty good cut, I take them out of their heavily bedded stalls and put them on concrete that I can keep clean. I give them a carpet square to lie on and pamper them a little. Once the wound is healing up nicely and closed, they move back to their stalls.

That's just what works for me. I'm certain everyone has their own way of dealing with cuts and scrapes :O)

An old dog man once told me that he doesnt give pennesilan unles the wound is realy bad.  His theory was that if you let the dog fight of bacteria on their own (with a little something applied directly to the wound)their immune system would be stronger than if you give them antibiotics for every bump and scrape.  This kind of makes sense to me and I tend to leave minor cuts alone and they heal fine. 

What are yalls views on this?

Also I have had better luck leaving wounds open to heal than closing them up. 

Oppinions, experiances?

I do believe, that if over used, Penicillin can become less effective.

On minor cuts, I just keep them clean and let them heal.

On larger stuff, I have sutured and stapled, then wipe down with iodine only.

I feel the key is to keep it clean, no matter what you put on it.

Some stuff applied can have adverse reactions, causing an itch or burn, which can make doge chew and pull staples/sutures.

 It is a decent rip in her flank. I am not going to use it anymore. The blue stain all over the bath room is too much. I will just use iodine or the neos if needed.  I got ahold of the guy I hunt with today and he told me that the drooling was from the spray numbing her mouth and tongue. Makes sense. 
She got an infection last month so I dont want to chance it. She is also inside the house until she heals. She is a kennel climber so I dont want her to hurt it even worse tring to get out.
