I'm sure this topic has been discussed previously.  I'm just wondering what everybody thinks.  Advantages and disadvantages to each and what do you prefer.  I don't know that I have ever hunted with a pure bred dog.  I have hunted with a couple crosses I would put up against anybodys dogs (Spic &Dan).  Would it be easier to reproduce the traits you desire with pure bred dogs?  Thoughts please.

if you are asking about hunting i say it' a toss up. i have a cross and a purebred, they both hunt equally well. they have different traits but they are equally good dogs.

as far as breeding goes you stand a better chance at being able to predict what you are going to get with a purebred dog. i would say that after you breed a crossed up dog you then would be able to know what they are going to reproduce.

so all in all i would go with either. long as they come from dogs that hunt and produced dogs that hunt you normally can't go wrong.

Well you know what kind of dogs I like but just to comment I like a cur/hound cross. I have had better luck finding a dog that fits my style better with the cross. Im not to partcular about breeds. I do like the blackmouth/hound cross.

I have been hunting a long time, and have hunted everything from hounds to cur dogs and almost every cross in between..... I will say this.........if they fit your style of hunting and you get along well with the dog.......HUNT IT!!!  Grin  I am not partial to any breed, I try to get dogs that are bred to hunt the way I hunt and then cull 'em out until I find the ones I want. Papers or lack thereof do not bay hogs.....dogs do......... Grin

Pecos,  What are you running now?

I have a Campbell Cur (bird dog x bulldog) out of GA and an Outlaw Cur x Catahoula cross. And my rookie catchdog is an American Bulldog x Pit.........
