I have hunted on foot, fourwheeler, and horseback. I usually go horseback and am not crazy about going any other way. Walking can get tiring after a while on a big place and it can be hard to get a hog out after you catch it. What I dislike the most about fourwheelers is that I can't hear my dogs when its running. If there are hogs close, they learn to listen for the fourwheeler and take off and get a head start on the dogs. I love riding to a bay and being able to hear what's going on the whole time, and then dragging the hog out on the end of a rope. That's just me, different strokes for differerent folks.

Its my favorite way to hunt hogs for all the obvious reasons but the places and the hunters I have been running with recently doesn't make it to practical. For me its like hunting on foot without getting tired! You cant beat a good horse or mule for hog hunting most places. Hunting off of them places you at a clear advantage for many reasons.
I have been the lone rider on many a hog hunt with everyone else on wheelers. On those hunts I am "always" the 1st one to the bay!
4 wheelers are nice for hauling them out of the woods though. I hate to drag a hog long distances. It can be too rough on them in hot weather.

wheelers for us you dont have to feed them.....lol they do make a lot of racket i know guys that do and their horses get to listening for the bark just like a catch dog does. course i also have a uncle that out ran a horse on foot after leaving the wheeler dur to terrain so 6 in one half dozen in the other whatever makes it better for you would be the answer i reckon

hunted alot off of mules and other than being sore it is well worth it. A mule will go places your 4 wheeler cant go, mules will swim the river! is the way to go in my opinion

If they need to be led they are usually left at the trailer until needed from what I have seen. A gave a friend of mine a pit bull puppy that wondered up after Ike hit year before last. She turned out to be a dang good catch dog. He trained her to ride with him on his horse.

We hunt off horse alot and would rather hunt this way than any other way!! The catch dog is trained to ride with me and I had several that I could make stay next to my horse until told to go!! The one I use now ways a whopping 28 lbs!! But will catch any thing a big dog will!!! I ride up on my horse and just throw her off!!

Some people carry the cd on the saddle but ours walk beside the horse until he hears a bay, then its off to the races. Or just run rough curs and don't worry about the "catch dog"
