Wes, Ross, and I made a nice hunt on the place we have been catching cattle. We brought a mix of old finished dogs and pups for a day hunt for a change. I had my Plott x Catahoula dogs Jessie, Cat, and Stoli, with Adora to catch. Wes brought old Boots and a few young dogs that are really turning on and a Plott pup who would be making his first hunt with Daisy to catch. Ross had some young dogs and his new catch dog as well.
We turned out about 12:30 it was still cool and the wind was coming off the river. We dropped dogs and drove around the salt ceders for a while, no hogs. Moved to the other side of the ranch and cast the dogs into a bend of the river. Jessie rolled out into the wind with the rest following. We stayed put and heard Jessie open up about 500yds out and was bayed. Help arrived soon and we started to them. Had a split bay with Jessie and Cat together and moving and all the young dogs and Boots on another, Boots was caught, as usuall, so I radioed to Ross to send catch dogs.
Nice boar with some teeth was caught and I believe every one of the young dogs had a hold.
I sent Wes to the other bay on foot, and Ross and I loaded catch dogs and drove close as we could get. 475 yards was the end of the road so we headed in leading our catch dogs with Boots and Stoli running loose. Half way to the bay a big boar jumped out of a bed and Boots and Stoli rolled with him and we continued to the bay. Wes radioed that he had to bays and to send the white dogs. Caught a big spotted sow in the river and the other hog and little boar broke and could not be stopped.
I gathered catch dogs and headed for Boots and Stoli but they met us on the way having no luck stopping their boar. A good day and all the young dogs did well only one dog cut, L3 Plates work very well in the heat, Titan Shorty was very hot and holds a lot of water no good at all for the summer.Adora will be running in her L3 from now on. Jessie started one more track and I let Adora run with the curs but the dogs were pretty smoked and we called it a day with two nice hogs in about 2 hours. Lots of pics.
Thanks,
