About 2 years ago I bought a retired game warden truck from the TPWD. It is a 1995 Chevy 1500 ext cab 4x4, the truck has served me well. I use it as a daily commuter, and a hunting rig. About a month ago, I decided that I could use an additional one. I found a 1998 Chevy 2500 ext cab 4x4 that the Texas State Fish Hatchery had retired. Mandi and I went and picked it up last Friday. I have been driving it to work this week, and kinda testing it out, before taking any long trips. Still need to put a dog box in this one, and get some mud tires for it. I especially like these old gasser Chevy's, they are fairly simple, and inexpensive to repair, unlike my diesels..Now I can leave my diesel trucks parked until I need them, and keep from wearing them out. Here are a couple pics of the new rig Here is a pic of rig #1, not sure what I am going to do with #1. Might keep it as a throw down, or take it to the farm, and use it up there.

Nice... I'm sure you'll like the extra room in the bed. Gonna put a toolbox on it and a dog box, or just an extra long dox box?

Cody, I am going to do a few things different with this truck. The dog area will be convertible. Pretty much a flip up, super short tonneau cover. Picture a bed, with a chain up front, and 3 dog clips. The area the dogs will occupy is going to be covered, and hinged at the front of the bed. If I happen to need the entire 8' bed, I can flip the cover up, and use the entire bed. That is what is running through my head at this time, subject to change at any time

Lance, Their location is almost as top secret as my hunting spots Actually, the state like most municipalities have annual auctions for surplus vehicles and equipment. I just wait for one to come around. This past auction, I thought about buying a few of these trucks, then offering a couple for sale, but the prices got a little out of hand in my opinion. Thought about buying a 3/4 ton dodge last year, it was a retired dog catcher truck from the City of Deer Park, but it too went for too much money. Chris

I wish you would have gotten another green one... everywhere we hunt people think he's the game warden!
