hey, i wanted to get back at you real quick, let you know that if you read the history of the great dane they were created appx 400 years ago in germany, they were a cross between a danish hound and a mastiff, over the years they became there own breed as most breeds have become, but originally these dogs were breed for big game but speciffically boars, Im not making this up, just google it. Any way if you remember back Hitler had great danes as did many of the german higher-ups and there past time was hunting russian boars with there danes, plus if there not hunting they are a great family dog, very compatible with any other breed out there as well.  I will get some pics on here asap, my camera battery died... Where are you located?

thats interesting about the great danes, i bet they would make some awesome catch dogs, but around here in some of this brush, thicket, trees, etc, i wonder how effective they would be. they'd have to get lucky and catch em in creek beds i guess, like my dog has, lol, he's a smaller american bulldog, but still american bulls are really to big for around here, we tried to flush a hog out of a brush pile a couple weeks ago that micheals 40 lb pit couldnt even get to. it kinda amazes you at how hogs can get into stuff like that.  ive always loved great danes though, would hate to feed the sucker though, lmao

i only go through a 50lb bag about every 3 weeks and thats with 2 labs (for duck season) and the great dane, you just got to be careful with there food when growing up cause there body can outgrow themselves and they would have skeletal problems so to fix that you feed them low protein food. But as far as size and getting to hogs, I find they work real good on bigger boars cause if you have one single dog there the pig will stick around and put up a fight instead of a bunch of dogs where the pig feels out numbered and runs away. But as you said you have noticed a 40 lbs pit have problems, well that just proves no matter what size the dog is you could always run into that problem, but as far as a catch dog there isnt musch hogs that will stand a chance.

Please give me a call at 361-533-6680, or e-mail me at joshuabryantwhite@yahoo.com  I am very intrested in one of your great danes and have been looking for a good one for a long time. The dane is one of the best hog dogs you can get for my style of hunting, and is very fast. They just appear to look slow because of their size, Also looking for a male to breed my dog to. They do good in most brush and have a little diferent style of running through it. Most of the Danes and Dane crosses I have hunted with would run through the brush like deer do. if they cant go around it they will jump over it. My dogs spend 80% of their hunting careers in farm country so they want have to deal with to much brush.

TT that would be great. I have had a heck of a time finding Danes and most breeders are not hog hunter friendly. I work seven on and seven off so I would have the time to drive to you if I need to. Send me a E-mail at joshuabryantwhite@yahoo.com send me a e-mail or give me a call after next thursday  9/25 and I will be back on shore. Many thanks Joshua.
