i feed my pups twice a day and my dogs once a day every night at 7 unless im hunting then its when we get back from hunting i know a few people that use feeders that they just fill but knowing what your dogs eating has always helped me to know if somethings wrong as if i know that dog eats 2.5 scoops every day without fail and i go check after feeding and he or she hasnt ate there food i know theres prob something going on with them, i do think its important to watch a hunting dogs diet and i really dont know thats possible when your free feeding

I have feeders for 3 of my dogs. A female pit, and a male and female cur. Been doin this for 2 1/2 years with these 3 dogs. I would say that I go through 2 bags a month for just those 3. The others get measured out twice daily or they would eat until they popped. I have noticed that the free fed dogs get a little pudgy come late spring, but it comes right off as soon as the heat sets in.
