THE OTHER NIGHT I WENT OUT WITH BAY DOGS AND 2 CATCH DOGS. HUNTED AROUND FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS WITH NO LUCK. DECIDED TO GO HUNT SOME IRRIGATED LAND (PIVOTS) MAINLY COTTON WITH A FEW PEANUT PATCHES.  DOGS CAME OFF THE HOOD AND WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE 4 FT COTTON FIELD.  THE STARTED BAYING AND IT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE MOVING SO I SENT A DOG THAT I HAVE USED AS A RUNNING CATCH DOG AND SHE WILL PUT TEETH AND HANG ON, SO WILL THE OTHER DOGS ONCE SOMETHING ELSE GET A HOLD.  ANYWAYS THE BAYING STOPPED MOMENTARILY, DOGS WERE ON THE GARMIN AT 330 WORKING THE AREA. I HEARD A COUPLE OF BARKS AWAY FROM THE TWO WITH COLLARS ON THEM.  THE TWO COLLARED DOGS STAYED AROUND THAT AREA THEN BEGAN WORKING BACK TOWARDS THE PICKUP.  FINALLY ONE BY ONE DOGS CAME OUT OF THE COTTON FIELD.  ALL BUT ONE DOG HAD BEEN CUT UP.  MY PROBLEM IS I HAVE ONLY CAUGHT ONE HOG IN A COTTON FIELD.  ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS OF HOW TO CATCH THEM SUCKERS IN THERE.

I THOUGHT I SENT THE CATCH DOG EARLY ENOUGH. BUT MAYBE NOT. WE WERE IN BETWEEN THE COTTON AND THE PEANUTS ON A ROAD SPLITTING THE TWO.

Sometimes it just works out that way,.

I hate cotton and stay as far from it as I can.

You might try sending in two loose bay dogs to get a good bay going and then send in the two best catch dogs you've got to shut the hog down.  I run into the same thing all the time and it just drives me crazy.  Another method would be to send the five catchiest(sp) dogs you've got when you turn loose on the field.  Either way expect some damage.

FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS, I HAVE STRUCK HOGS IN COTTON BUT HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO STOP ONE. I DO HAVE SOME GOOD DOGS JUST THINK IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH THE HOGS CAN GO WHEREVER THEY WANT BUT THE DOGS TRY TO JUMP THE ROWS.

See if you can find its escape route and post up on it with a fast catchy dog and send in the rest of the pack in like regular and as he goes for the escape you'll be waiting. I don't like using this method but have done it on a few barrs that were givng my dogs the repeated slip.

THEY ARE IN THE COTTON BECAUSE IT IS A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN LAY UP BETWEEN THE ROWS IN THE SHADE.  MOST OF THE COTTON AROUND HERE IS IRRIGATED.  THEY ALSO EAT THE BOLLS.
I HONESTLY THINK THE HOGS ARE NOT LEAVING THE CIELD WHEN THE DOGS GET ON THEM.

I don't see a problem with what happened....sometimes that happens.  That's they why they call it hunting and not catching.

Now if it happens repeatedly, I think you have a problem.
