I ride an old Courts saddle and James rides a Longhorn. The older Courts are heavy to swing up on a tall horse but very comfortable. A good pad and blanket make a lot of difference in how well a saddle fits if you cant afford a custom built.
Bennie (Caughtandhobbled), Im still riding the Courts saddle that I was riding back when we all used to rope out at PawPaw Jones, and at Duncan's.

Your right, it's hard to beat the old Courts saddles. It's probably better made than most production saddles that's made today. Heck I had an old Hereford saddle for years that was a good saddle, I gave it to a kid a few years ago and he still uses it. The Longhorn saddles were right there with the Billy Cook saddles years ago (top of the line production saddles), I never had either they were the rich boys saddles when I was a youngster. When I got my Hereford on my 14th birthday nobody could have ever convinced me there was ever a better saddle made, lol....

i,ve tore down and worked on about all kinds over the years, but the best of the old factory saddles in my opinion were the billy cooks and longhorns from the late 60's thru the mid to late 70's. later, courts and ammerman came along and made nice factory saddles too, but for quality of work and materials, i'd take an early 70's longhorn over the others.
