I believe it works real well to get them started, dont over do it. Once the pups start hunting dont do it any more. Thats my opinion, for all its worth.

Real good for young dogs. Start out making it easy & progress to harder.

seems my buddys and i all got pups last yr around the same age so they are all about a yr an have been baying a while and have been on a few catches so wat weve been doing is turning a hog out at night and waiting 30-45 minutes and turning our pups out on it and once they bay we let them sit there and bay for about 30 minutes and get a little longer on the bay each time and the time between the release and dropping the tailgate seems to be working well and building the pups confidence up

x2, However, I hunt them as long as they want to bay a hog.

If the pups are catching the staged shoat, then you need to put a bigger hog in front of them so that they can learn a little hog respect. Otherwise they could get hurt badly or killed on the first big boar in the woods they encounter on account they won't know any better. I made this mistake years ago and I almost lost the best hog dog pup I have ever owned. Luckily he lived over it and went on to be a real hog dog.
