the opening statement of this artical says it all... i just got back from the vet over in tarkington about an hour ago and i can barely sit down from the raping i got. two shots and two health certs = $146. they wanted $24 a shot if i buy the shots and take them home for the other 6 pups. i went to another local vet and got the other 6 shots for $12 a piece.. highway robbery i tell ya  |

Thats why we use Crosby vet clinic. One of our dogs had to have a toe amputated because of staff in the bone. Xrays, surgery, overnight stay, and meds all for about $150. Cant beat that.

I dont know about in your area,, but here, it sure does help to have a vet that likes to hunt, and knows about hog hunting. these what I call tourest (dont know about the spelling) vets will charge you double if they think your animals are used for hunting...

Thats probably true. We are lucky to have some good ol' country locals as vets. Dr Wagers that owns Crosby vet has always had cow and hog dogs. |

yes the guy I use does that too, and I like the fact that he will let me go in with him and help him some times , so I get to learn some stuff and he will let me know what to do in the field that could have made things a little better .

My area (Chgo) sucks when it comes to vets. Everyone wants to do blood, stool, scrape test.
Then it's one shot after another. IMO I think some of those shots just weaken the immune system. Now I just call a horse vet and get what I need from him. Thank goodness he's a hunter so he's not worry about cuts and scratches. My dogs actually became healthier when I stop going to the vet and changed the diet to raw. I'm sure raw is another debatable subject.

I don't need a book. I drive to Coldspring just because Merry has experience and cares about animals more than money. Her charges are reasonable. I never left thinking I paid too much unlike some other vets. But I liked her when I took my first dog to her. The first vet put a muzzle on my dog and told me the dog had heart worms expecting me to hand over the kids college fund! I took my dog up to Merry because I heard it would save money. She walked in and started asking about the dog. She asked if it was a hunting dog as she was drawing blood for the heart worm test. No muzzle and she had such good dog manners the dog hardly noticed the blood being taken. She came back and told me the dog did not have heart worms the other vet must have made a mistake but she put the blood under the microscope to make sure. She treated the problems correctly and it cost less than just getting the test at the other vet. Plus my dogs like her.
