Go to a hardwear store and buy u some chain and then one of the screw in stakes then use a quick conect chain link on the top andd use a sledge hammer to close the gap in the stake. Screw in the ground and nothing is going to pull it up.

thanks for the tips i was thinking about putting in a t-post with some sort of pipe to go around the post to keep the chain from gettin hung up. also would a metal barrel be enough cover for the dog or should i go ahead and get a dog house?

Metal barrels can get too hot, plastic barrels work great though.... ![Wink](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

If u go with the tpost they work great for dogs that stay at the end of the chain but if not they get tangled up. I have 5 dogs like that and it works for them but none of my others. I have a O ring around the t posts. Also if the dog jumps at the end of the chain I have had dogs get off that way the o ring comes off the post so I ended up tying something about half way up the post to keep it from coming off. It works for me but would not really recommend it

seen a yard of 100 dogs tied out like this for over 10yrs and one never got off the chain..
get half of a car axel from a junk yard...$10
get a 10' -25' chain...$15
(3) quick link or rapid links.....$4
2 2" O-ring and the second biggest forged swivel you can get from the hard ware store...$5
attach the rapid links to ends of the chain and attach the swivel to one end and the o-ring to the other.....put the axel through the o-ring and sledge hammer it down as far as you can go....take the other o-ring and attach the last rapid link to the o-ring and the swivel...you slide the collar through the o-ring...when i had pits i did this and i never had one get off...the biggest problem is that you have to put the dog between your legs and squeeze while you take the collar off, let the chain come of the collar then reattach the collar to the dog.
they won't bend that axel, they can't pull it out of the ground, the brake disc keeps the chain from popping off, and you don't have to worry about a snap coming undone at the collar. i have never had a collar break and you will need to check the every couple of months just to make sure everything is good with it....have fun...
