I'm interested in both breeds but am concerned with the size. I love a gamy dog but given their size they seem some what suicidal. Any one crossing the breeds with a larger dog? I would guess that you might end up with a larger dog with the same drive.
Another concern is their handle.... I need all my dogs to be family friendly. I'm new to hog doggin but I'm not new to working dogs. I've raised numerous jam up hounds and all were spoiled rotten (work hard play harder). I don't want a dog that has to be kenneled 24/7

We have two adult Jagds and they are gritty and very friendly with all of our other dogs and any children that come around. They are very hyperactive and have a strong drive, our male jagd caught a hog alittle over 50 pounds by himself and was still ready for more, i know that isnt very large but still he is only 18 pounds at most and that was the only hog around! We do use them for both wood hunting and baypen dogs, they work very well boths ways. They are easy to maintain, especially smooth coated jagds, cheap to feed, and very adaptable. I would definetly recommend a jagd for anyone!! This is a pup from a recent litter we have on the ground, literally. haha.

my buddy phillip likes his patterdales, I think youll kill a few varmits every hunt but that doesnt bother me for the most part..... they ae fun to hunt with and would be my first choice if I had to downgrade in kennell space of feed etc. never seen a crossed up one with bigger dog but I would guess that would be fun to do with decent results

In my hog doggers group I have a guy that hunts groundhogs with patterdales. We might breed a cur with it but they are so small dont know if they'll work for hogs. The dog below is 1/2 jack russell, 1/4 pit, 1/4 GREAT DANE! Beleive or not, My buddy said its the best dog he evr owned. Wont hunt it because its the family dog.
