I don't know much about blue ticks tellme the good and bad things about the. Are they good strike dogs or just bay dogs

Any breed of dog has good and bad within it.  If you need track dogs to get to the hog to bay, a hound is a good addition to any pack.  However, if you are overrun with hogs that are easily spotted by the hunter him/herself, a cur is most likely a better option.  Curs tend to use their eyes, whereas a hound perfers to use it's nose.  Neither is better, just different.  Both have their place depending on the situation at hand.   Grin

As far as hounds go, I like blueticks.   Wink

I have a bluetick gyp and she is a good strike dog.. Blueticks find hogs good and usually range out good, but the only thing I don't like about them is most are open..

Yeah if I was to choose any hound I would choose a bluetick too

My main strike dog is a bluetick. He is LONG range, and he will put teeth on a hog to stop him. My buddy has one that is a lot rougher than mine but he hunts more like my curs. His is totally silent and mine only barks after a hog breaks.
