Bow season opened up today in Oklahoma. This mornings hunt I saw two nice 8pters but the closest they got was 85 yds, and I saw several does as well. At least I know there are some gooduns running around. This evening I headed back out and bout an half an hour before sundown I had 3 does come in to 25yds. Finally got an opputunity to draw back and let one go. The lumenok lit up and I could see I hit it a little too far forward, through the tough part of the shoulder. If I miss I am gonna miss to the left and that is where it went. So anyways waited in the stand for bout 30 min then decided to get down and have a look. I found the arrow bout 50yds from where it was hit, had some blood on the arrow but not nearly what I like to see, and very little blood anywhere on the ground. And by now it is dark thirty. I searched around for an hour but only found a few little blood drops.
So now I will get back to looking in the morning. Thankfully it is supposed to get down in the 40s tonite, so hopefully I find her tomorrow and she will still be in good shape. Hopefully the coyotes dont find her first.
I am just sick with myself right now. This is the first deer I have shot at and not immediately recovered. I would rather miss completely then to hit one and not get it. Apparently, I was in such a bad mood that my wife decided to stay at her parents tonite(which is where I was hunting). So now here I am drinking my whiskey and cokes, replaying the whole thing in my head, and waiting for daylight so I can hopefully find this deer. I like to get big bucks, but I like eating the meat even more, so finding this doe is just as important to me as a big ole buck. And another kicker is here in OK, we cant use dogs to find wounded deer...how stupid is that? I would love to take one of my little pups out who has a heck of a nose to see if she could help me out.
Sorry for being long winded, but I am in a crappy mood and had to vent somewhere. Hopefully it will be alright in the morning.

Man hate to hear that I hit one a few years ago a little low and didn't ever find her. My dad found her about 300 or 400 yards past where the blood ran out and at the time I didn't have a blood dog. It happens don't be down on your self all we can do is do our best to recover and hope for the best. Hitting that far forward they usually aint moving the best and will lay up pretty quick. Good luck.

Take that pup for an "on lead walk" for some excercise. Hope you find her.

It is legal in my state to use a dog for blood trailing. But before it was legal I used to make a few coon hunting trips with my old hound to find downed deer.

Well I found it this morning. The blood trail got much heavier about 50 yds past where I gave up last night and I found it about 200yds from there in a little thicket. It made it roughly 4-500 yds from where it was shot. Unfortunately something else found it first. It's stomach was tore open pretty good and it was covered up with twigs and leaves. So I am thinking a big cat. Trail camera is set up on it now so we will see.
