Had an extremely aggravating hunt early this evening in which we literally walked right into a massive sounder and had multiple short bays but when Kevin and I cut loose the pits they took off chasing down their own runners, to no avail. Kevins pit came back, mine however has suicidal bottom

After wasting an hour calling Connie with no success, we said screw her , lets hunt. I then lost my half retarded WB yellow male at 40 yards his two month old DC40 dropped signal and he was just bookin it! Never did pick up signal till he was in the truck, but I digress.

We were pissed and ready to leave a t shirt when the dogs bayed....

They bayed in the woods, it broke to a rice canal and stayed bayed for around an hour before we were able to hack our way to it. This levee brush was the thickest I've ever seen, ever. We wanted the hog to get pushed back to us, but it weren't happening. I finally did what was needed and stripped down to my bibs and swam it. If you never been in a rice canal, that water is deceptively swift, it felt like swimming the Brazos. Anyway went up the other levee and got right over them, slid the bank and listened to Kevin instructions as to which direction he was making his stand. Barefoot BTW as thus dang levee was knee deep mud  I finally saw an opening to bust through and went for it, got him stuck andthat was all she wrote.

The two missing dogs showed up at the bay, so everyone I accounted for.

Terry I believe I'll add a little color to the bay.. ..We were walking back towards the truck when the dogs bayed in the woods and ran to the canal, we were trying to see what they had but the D@M brush (a tangle of every bush known to God and man) was shoulder high and couldn't see anything. Finally we see a hog head crossing the canal and dogs all around it, Red Duke Cuz & Walmart were on it's tail. The hog never stood a chance those dogs were working the heck out of the swimming and wouldn't let it get on the bank. They were pulling pounds of flesh, after a couple of crossing we see a new face to the bay Connie came out of nowhere and hit the hog at that point I released Girl now all the dogs were on his head. Another crossing and that when Terry decided he hadn't had his bath so he stripped down and swam across to come out of the canal less his rubber boots and plus a few thorns in the feet.

I forgot to add we saw several gators out there and I'm pretty sure they were near by...my hat is off to Terry for jumping in that canal, I'm not a strong swimmer and got in the water waist deep and sunk a foot in mud on the bottom. It was a pretty exciting moment and was glad everything came out ok and we got that hog..

Haha you know I'm always more worried about finding dead bodies in the canals than most other things. There's been a few floaters in those canals.

if you were swimming/hunting out there in the Danbury area... we have seen some 12-14 foot gators in that general area... :)and lots of smaller ones too...
