I have been on this site for some time but never post anything but have read plenty. I'm not seasoned to the whole game but wonder if I could get some suggestions. I'm trying to find an awesome gift for my son (Ray he's on this site often). He has mentioned a new Garmin but a single mom of 5 boys i have a hard time justifying paying $700 for new tracking system and if I did that would be his only gift. Maybe someone could make a suggestion. I work at a fab shop and already have a dog box in the works but won't be ready anytime soon. Thanks for the help. Amber 936-445-0410 aallen@ameritexllc.com

First off, Kudos to you for being a single mother of 5 boys. But some more info would be nice as to suggest a good gift. A new Garmin would be an awesome gift for sure. I am 32 and finally saved enough money to get my own garmin. Does your boy already have his own dogs and everything? Besides a Garmin some more reasonably priced good gifts could include some new cut gear, or even something as simple as some nice new dog leads or hog hobbles or anything along those lines. I myself am new to hog doggin, and my Xmas list includes these items as well as a few others.

Sorry I was up late and thought bout that after the fact. He is 16 yrs and loves hunting and fishing. He has tons of fishing gear so I was leaning toward hunting. He has his own dogs and some cut gear and a few other things. I guess I was wondering if there something like a "must have" for hog hunting. He may already have everything he needs. I just know that new products for hog hunting don't just advertise like fishing stuff would. Once again thanks. Amber 936-445-0410 aallen@ameritexllc.com

I would take the single present garmin all day. But some other good ideas are the cut kit, hobbles, cut gear, head lamp, knife, boots, a camelbak backpack(holds water), stuff for dogs medicine and wormers, Vetericyn. E-collars. Collars with name and number on them.
Hope those boys are doing nice things for you if you are willing to spend that kind of money on one of 5!

Might want to look into getting him a puppy. Thats a great feelin when you can catch hogs behind a dog that you have raised and trained yourself! Good luck and happy holidays to y'all!!

Find a crew and ask for some mule tape. The last time I asked for some I got enough to fill a box up and it overflowed and it was free. It would just be funny getting a box of used mule tape and only a hog hunter would be happy with it Then use the money to buy other stuff.

Thanks for some of the suggestions. He's a teenager and wants all the upgraded stuff. And I dont mind spending money on hunting or fishing because it keeps him out of trouble. A box full of mule tape sound awesome...lol...I'm going to take the suggestions of getting smaller items and save some money for something bigger later.

The keeping them out of trouble is priceless! As parents we will spend every penny we can get our hands on to bail them out of trouble, so Im all about the proactive approach. Find somewere local that has the garmin (bestbuy, Cabelles, ect) purchase him a gift card for say 1/2 the price, that will give hime something to work, and look forward to. after all half the hunt is getting ready.
