I am getting ready to build my first hog trap and was looking for some experienced opinions on the best door setup to use. The trap is going to be 4x8. I havent decided if I want to use the spring loaded swinging door setup, or the angled rooting type door setup. I have pretty much ruled out the Guillotine type door as it just seems like too much work. What are the pros or cons to either of the door setups mentioned? Just looking for some experienced opinions on this one. Thanks.

I use a spring loaded door on mine but I still prop the door open with a stick as it seems to get the first hog inside quicker, then others follow. My uncle likes the root up kind and catches plenty of hogs that way. As far as drawbacks I guess you have the extra cost of the spring and it could break eventually. Both styles I think are better than the trap door.

I use the root up door and run a piece of rope to the back of the trap and have a trip wire so its open then when the trip it others can still come in
