Roy McBride - Alpine, TX Cat Hunter/ Trapper

Anyone know this guy or hunt with him or his sons?

I've got a painting in my office of some Ocelots that Roy captured in the 70's. I was talking to the artist on the phone today, and he was telling me some stories about Roy and old Mexico in the 70's and 80's.  Got me to wondering if anyone from ETHD might have hunted with him...

I don't know the mam,.....but I wish I did. While I was in Utah back in Nov. on my mule deer hunt,...we met a guy from there while checking out my deer, that is a Gov. hunter for the state. We strck up a conversation with him and wound up talking for over an hour about hounds, bear, cat, hogs and just dog hunting in general. Clint Meacam was his name, not sure on the spelling. He has blueticks and redticks that his grandfather, who was also a Gov. hunter started years ago. It was funny that some of the younger dudes working the checking station would look at us like they had no clue what we were talking about......probably 'cause they really didn't! It was quite enjoyable to talk with this guy,.....wish I could again.

When I was in school in Alpine in the late 80's. Rocky and Rowdy were still living there. In the 90's they all moved to Central America for a while to help on some studies for the Jaguars. Later they went to florida I heard to help on a study of the Florida Panther. I believe they are back in Alpine guiding and still hunting. They all use to run around with a couple of Cat hunters around there. Tony Timmons, Rocky, Rowdy, Rick Mcgiver who is the Sherriff there in Ft. Davis and there was another crazy man from Ft. Stockton but I can't recall his name was a horse trainer that always rode and trained mules also.

I think I saw a program onn that Jaguar collaring hunt.  The would tree them, dart them, and catch em in a net when they fell out of the tree.  However, one fell prior to having the full effect of the drug.  This ole boy grabbed the jaguar by the tail while the dogs bayed at his head.  Looked a little hairy for a while.  I think I would have gone up the tree when the cat fell down!
