I was wondering how i can get my dog to pull. It seems no matter what i tie him to 5lb weight or 25 lb weight he wont pull it. My other pits did it naturally.

sounds like a dream come true. does he pull you thru the woods? I work so hard to break my dogs from pulling on me, never tried to make a dog pull. would like to see one of those contests some day though. where do the hold them?

Lol no no not what i meant when on a leash my dogs wont pull at all i make sure of this. I like to make them pull tires to get some muscle.

I dont want him to break his neck to get to a pig lol. I had to lead him with a leash and run wit him.

Unless your going to put him in a weight pulling harness there's no need to tie a weight or tire to his lead because hes not going to build any muscle from the neck. Try and flip a horse halter over and see if he'll slide into that. Other than that feed him lots of chicken and rice then just build his endurance up by jogging him not a full run. Both my father and grandfather had game dogs. We still have slat board treadmills in the garage. Keep the dog in a steady jogging pace and lots of protein and also let them hang from a rope from a tree it'll build that neck up and that jaw muscle up.

got them to the point to pull the hog out after they catch it. i just made a mule harness across the chest and one strap over the upper back

What kind of dogs were yall pulln hogs with. Ive heard of people doing this just never seen it. Im ganna try everything i just want his endurance built up. These Texas summers get pretty bad.

I thought about trying to get Baus to pull a hog out of the woods... But then I questioned how to get him not to want to turn around and catch the dang thing again. He gets excited in front of piggies!  Any ideas? |

The best thing for those Texas summers is to control the feed and fat in winter lean in summer. Florida is hot and on that white sand oak scrub it's hotter. A dog needs to learn and pace itself. It's like the hare and the tortoise. Hogs a hoofin and the dog is at a steady pace and when the time comes he shuts the hog down. Let the dogs out everyday so they don't get kennel stir crazy. So when you take emm to hunt they don't exert all of their energy on the first run. Some dogs just have that stamina at birth and that's awesome but some you got to train.

no pics on hand but go to a leather store and ask for 2 inch strips of old leather, older the better, and put one strap across mid chest then a strap over top of shoulders and cinch clip down, and run either leads or more leather, i did leads cause the leather would rub out bout 5 feet back to a clip where you attach hobbles or mule tape I thought about trying to get Baus to pull a hog out of the woods... But then I questioned how to get him not to want to turn around and catch the dang thing again. He gets excited in front of piggies! Any ideas? mine had that problem at first but more times i worked him and would have to pull him off and scold him the more he learned. best to do it with a tire first then work up to a dead hog then you can start pullin live ones. 250+ hogs were nothin when my dogs were pullin them |
