whats the best way to set the compas true or mag. north mine is on true and it wont stay set, its always off a few degrees

Never used a garmin but had extensive compus work in army. I can tell you that in the southern united states magnetic north vs. true north makes no difference unless your talking about pin point accuracy (I.e. plus or minus a few yards). The many orienteering courses I had to navigate it just didn't make a difference. Of course I am talking about a magnetic compus not something digital so what do I know.

i wouldent mind if it was off a few yards but if the dog is out 400 yards its off around 100 yards, i dont know how many times ive recalbrated this thing, people ore starting to think ive lost it when they look over and im standing there going in circles.

i run gps and beep collars on my dogs.i had alot of trouble with my compass.i always carried my beep collar magnets in my pocket.i think they were interfering with the compass.been leavin them in the truck.seems to be workin better. Huh?
