Found myself in a bad situation last night.... All alone with no phone! Took a couple of the dogs to the creek for a swim and Shelby jumped in at a spot where she couldn't climb back up so she started drowning herself and swim further down so Roush and me tried to catch her further down up on the banks. We ran into a cottonmouth and I told roush screw it let's go back up top and back around! Shelby found herself a little spot that was snake infested literally and got bit on the leg pretty bad. It was a spot that I could not get to but I did anyways and jumped down and then saw some snakes crawling around my feet! All babies with green immature tails and a fully grown big one! I picked Shelby up and threw her on top of the bank as far as I could then tried to save myself and jump up and the entire bank collapsed with snakes going everywhere along my feet! Heck I had my face in the dirt and finger nails holding on tight kicking trying to pull myself up..... I never did get bit though thank goodness. Had to carry Shelby a couple miles back to the car she hasn't moved from the spot I put her in and gave her some benedryl and shaved her leg she got bit twice. Glad we both made it out of there though that was a scary situation and my worst fear.

Scary I've always been afraid of that since I saw the lonesome dove red river crossing scene. I think of it every time I get in creek water. Glad you don't get it though.

You get in a nest and it is scarry. They will come after you. I have been chased. You are lucky not to get bit. You might give your vet a call and find out how much the anti venom is. It will reduce further damage. I have not had cotton mouth bites just copper head and rattle snake. But rattle snake bites are bad and I think cotton mouth are right there with them.

Went home on my break and checked her out. She hasn't moved from the same spot I left her this morning and the bite has bits of blood coming out with some brown stuff mixed in looks like and has an odor as well. I cleaned it up and fed her she still has an appetite and then I took her into the vet and went back to work. I'm waiting to hear back right now. Here is a picture from this morning. Blue Lacy weighs 38lbs. Has two bite different sets of bite marks and smaller assuming it was baby cottonmouth or two of them.

We don't have many rattlesnakes but we make up for em in cottonmouths. I usually let the dog ride it on out and everythings fine. Had a you g gyp bit three times last year and didn't know if she would make it but she did.
My biggest fear is hunting by myself and getting bit!

She is starting to walk around the house now it's still pretty swollen around her leg area and now around her butt area though it doesn't look like she has much feeling in her leg yet. I've been keeping her on Amoxicillin & Benadryl since it happened and been doing some water therapy believe she'll be alright! Don't think I'll have to invest in future snake avoidance classes though I hear these Lacys are smart with that sort of thing.
I learned not to go out to them creeks anymore during spring time that's for dang sure and if I do don't leave my cell phone in the ride. Pretty sure nobody shoots snakes over in that area so they're plentiful would be nice to go bring their total down though.... Pretty dangerous though it's off a main road and near tollway behind a high school.

22 shorts or a good pellet gun. Growing up my dads house was on a creek right on the edge of the woods, and during the summer there are no telling how many snakes i would kill each day.

Get some M-80 firecrackers and drop a few at a time in the nest if you can't shoot them.
