If you have had Parvo in your kennels dirt floors, how do you treat your kennels once all the puppies die?Huh?  Need to stop it somehow

I believe that once you get it you got it. Bleach your dirt floors and anything they touched. Your older dogs can come into contact with it outside the kennels and may just get sick for a while. Avoid cross contamination. When you have pups, handle them before you take care of your grown dogs. Pups get some immunity from their mothers milk but are very suceptable to parvo after they come off their momma. I haven't had any problems two weeks after their second shot contracting parvo.

Raider, I have plenty of experience with parvo in my job. I see it nearly every day. Your older dogs are safe. Bleach and other sanitizing agents will not work properly on dirt. you cannot sanitize organic matter like that. Sunlight and time are the best. If you are going to have puppies there, i would build some kennels up off the ground for them. How did you get it in the first place??

I would wait for atleast a year to have pups. I had a pup get it and so did my sister.

You can try and take 2-3 inches of dirt out of the kennel and replace it. As was stated earlier, time and heat will cure it. I had it a couple of years ago with an AB litter. I did a repeat breeding a year later...started the pups on high titer parvo vacc at 4 weeks old and a different vaccine regiment, other than that, nothing different...not a one contracted it.

Parvo is everywhere...the pups immune system needs to be constantly challenged to remain strong...the strong survive...

Man it's a terrible thing, I have been fortunate enough to have saved some pups from parvo, And have done countless research on it. This is the way I understand it. While puppy is nursing he's pretty safe, Because the mothers milk has the antibodies in it to help prevent and kill any foreign sickness, I always give the jip a shot right after she has had the pups, hoping that it will carry on through the milk,to help boost their immune system. But I think the critical time is when you are weaning, I wean at 6 weeks and that day they get a shot, then I follow up at 8-10-12-14 weeks with the others. I have heard people say their dog was given 2 or 3 rounds and still got the parvo,And I can say I 've had them die with 4 rounds in them, the timing is very crucial, I feel the more the better, 3 or 4 or even 5 dollars is not bad money spent you hear all the time people having pups die of parvo, and you ask them how many shots they have had, And they say none,That tells me they don't care, In my eyes if they don't care enough to spend chump change on a pup then they shouldn't have the right to own it! Not being crapy but that's how I feel about it, Kinda jumped off course LOL I think that the guys are right the sun shine and time will get rid off it, if its in the dirt, But as a rule off thumb I try and raise the pups off the ground , and try like hell to get their emunity up, Havent had it in 2 years so i want to think the way I'm doing it is working,.......Hope I could help.........................W.D...................................

Clorox your dog houses, bucket, bowls, every thing.  Burn any bedding etc. they contacted.  Some one mentioned digging out a few inches of dirt out of your kennels.  I dont know if that helps or not but it wouldnt hurt anything (did it to mine once when I had it, cloroxed the dirt also).

I think I read that parvo can survive 6 or 7 months in the ground so keep that in mind.  Wouldnt hurt to build a brooder up off the ground if you intend to have any more pups any time soon.

I use a pen up off the ground with a welping box on the end. Expanded metal on the floor of the pen. Easy to rise down and bleach between litters.

lime the floor, bleach everything that they may have some in contact with, that stuff will stay in water and everything else, if you had a rain come through and it washed through the kennel anywhere you will have the parvo there too. I have seen some cases where people have to destroy there whole yard. It will go to your neighbors too if you dont take care of it. Thats some bad stuff.
