We have saved some pups by giving them tamiflu and fluids. Fluids alone haven't worked for us. I also have seen a guy mix 1ml of bleach with 2mls of water and shoot it straight down their throat. It worked but i haven't done it on any of my pups personally. Corrid for chickens and other farm animals seems to have a positive effect against parvo also. If someone could figure out the cure from a scientific standpoint they would be rich! personally I think vets don't want to cure it, they would loose too much money treating pups. just my two cents. the prevention is too easy to worry about a cure...just get the right vaccine... |

where are you guys buying the 7-1 w/coronavirus vaccines??? the link would be helpful to me. ive got some pups right now and have been debating taking them to vet for puppy shots, due to not having good luck with them in past and ive given the 7way and some still have died and ive not given shots and still some have died. ive had 4 out of 10 pups live from whatever there getting.

The reason you give pups multiple injections of the same vaccintaion has nothing to do with how long the vaccination lasts, how strong it is, or anything of the sort.
Without a bunch of scientific BS, pups receive one dose of antibodies from their mother. It is delivered in the "fore-milk" which is colostrum they drink the first day or two they are born. Colostrum contains a transfer factor that allows the antibodies to be absorbed and not killed and digested like anything that would normally be injested.
The mothers antibodies which are passed last for a non-specific time, but will render any given vaccination useless as long as they are in the pups system. By giving multiple injections, the attempt is to try and hit what is called the "window of susceptibility" when the vaccination will not be killed, and will become effective. Injections given past that point are worthless, however there is no way to know when that period is because it varies.
This is why some pups who have been properly vaccinated can and do sometimes catch the virus...due to the fact by a stroke of bad luck perhaps they were vaccinated either too early or to late having been exposed to the virus during that window period.
Another thing worthy of mentioning is the importance of the mother having been properly vaccinated. If she had not, the pups won't receive near the amount of antibodies they otherwise should have and it can greatly increase their chances of becoming infected.

For those that know me know i have battled this bug and fought it with a vengeance and after 2 years clean i think we have the math and science down here.
we start the weaning at 5 weeks as well as the first round of shots gradually keeping the pups of the momma to longer away 8 weeks they get round 2 no more contact with hte bitch these pups are in a 4 x 12 above ground hut then at 12 weeks they have the third round,,
most times before a puppy leaves here ill give it a shot or send a shot home with it in a big ziplock with ice
we also vaccanatie the bitch 4-3 weeks before the whelping date
bleach mixed 9-10 to 1 will kill any and everything we spaythis in hte pup hut let dry and dust the hell out of it with DE (diatomaceous earth) dont grade my spelling,,,
this is what i have learned the hard way is in lines with what Silverton Boars said backed up with hours and hours of looking things up on it on the web as well as talking to Vets
it they haved it baytril 1cc for pups 1cc of combi pen rotated for 5 days give the pups a 1/2 of pepsid or if you can get your hands on it of get it froma vet vingrin (stops the puking ) and iv fliuds or pump fluids under the skin every 3-4 hours making bubbles under teh skin

I used to have the same problem, thought it was parvo killing all my pups when I was religiously giving the 7 way shot 3 times just like the others posted, then started giving the 8 way with corona about 3-4 years ago and have not lost a pup since! Even the Vet was kind of baffled at my results!

I'd never heard of the 8 way shot til this site. I've always given the 7 way shot and didn't even really do that when I was growing up watching my dad and uncle with dogs. Gyp had her puppies running loose in the barn somewhere or under the shed, what we saw coming out in a few weeks is what there was. I'm in Louisiana and locally you don't just buy the 8 way shot at the feed store like you do in Texas I guess. I've still yet to see one or find one anywhere around besides the vet. Makes me wonder how we even raised pups back then. |
