Took on of my good friends sons, Cody, with me to the golf course for his second hunt (first time was a dry run). Cut Lacy and Jade loose and they sent dirt in our faces as usual. Wind wasn't really right for the spot we were hitting and I think the hogs winded the dogs (i been running catching a lot every week out there, so they are pretty dog smart). Didn't hear any barks but the girls were about 450 out to the right when we heard the woods crashing strait ahead of us. Here come the pigs! A good boar ran across us and we sent Daniel's catxpit pups too him. Another sow came out and I sent remi to her, she broke back to the woods and remi followed. Daniels dogs came treed about 900 yards out. On our way to them remi and the girls came treed. We got to the pups and they had about a 170 lbs boar caught. Cody got in there with the blade and got the job done. Went back to where we cut loose and all the girls showed treed at 350 yards and we could hear Lacy and Jade hammering. Made our way in and Remi had a sow locked down. Cody got in again and got the job done with the blade. The girls rolled out and I tied remi off to cool her down a bit. Started driving to the girls and we caught a sow going across a field. Turned the cat pit pups out, they had this sow going in circles trying to fight every direction she could. Sent remi and the pups jumped in sealing the deal. Cody sealed the deal again. Got the last one at the corer of a goat wire fence and the girls had rolled out on a couple bachelors. They were baying and breaking both these boys before they finally ran them together and bayed them in catch dog hell about a mile out. Drove to them and they were bayed in some real thick stuff, on the edge of a field, about 100 yards behind a barn. Sent remi in from about 40 yards, she went in, came out, went to the other side and got nailed as the boar came out. We walked up to see what the heck happened and realized he had been sitting in a big fuel tank that was on about a three foot stand that a top section had been cut out to make a smoker or something. I finally got into the thick stuff enough to see into it and what do you know, another boar sitting in there, but he busted out of there soon as he saw me. We figured the first four in thirty min was good enough and had to be back to the house by noon, so we started calling the girls in and finally got them caught. It was a good time and a good experience for the first timer. He is 13 and should have his pups going within the next year. Needless to say, he is hooked!
First Boar
Second hog, made Code hold this one while it was still alive for a little bit. Gonna have to teach him to tie now that I got him broke in.
