Went to turn on the light this morning and it sizzled a bit. I turned it off and got a new switch. Now the light don't work at all. The other stuff on the breaker works. I used a multi meter and it looks likeithe switch works. I am about to go buy another switch but I can't figure this out.

sounds like there is a short somewhere and when the power ran through the switch it fried it. Check the light it runs too. had a lamp go bad one time and did the same thing. If the lamp is plugged into a socket, try pluggin somethin else into it (somethin your not fond of just in case) and see what happens. If u r getn continuity through the switch, it aint the switch. I would venture to agree with rdjustham on a short between the switch n the light its self

I would rather crawl in a waller than fiberglass. I went up and could not find the wires. I guess I will get some coveralls, gloves and duct tape. Then go to digging in the fiberglass for wires.

Dub before you do all that have you tried to ohm the switch? If you have wire nut the hot and neutral together at the switch and then ohm the wiring at the light. If that's good terminate everything back turn on the breaker and switch and check voltage to ground at the outlet. I assume it's 120v if you don't have voltage it's the bulb holder. If that don't work ohm the hot and neutral going back to the panel. Hope this helps

Also when you ohm the switch yoo should see the ohm meter change states from open to closed as you toggle the switch

Look for a junction box in the attic . Maybe a loose connection.

before goin through the attic i would take the fan down, put a simple outlet on the wire and plug a lamp or somethin into it. Would definately tell you if its the fan or between there and the switch. Of course you could always take the fan apart instead.
Im with you on the attic, to much heat and humidity here in Fl for that crap.

I wired in another light fixture. Put both wires together on the switch then turned on the breaker and it still don't work. But there one of those old fan switches on the wall. I can't tell if the wiring goes through it. I am about to take everything apart. I am no electrician and feel like the kid on Breakfast Club. I turned on my lamp and it did not work. Now I need some tape ![Grin](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/grin.gif) If you know the movie you know what I'm talking about. When I get home from the feed store I will be back on it.

It was a short in the dial thing that used to control the old ceiling fan. When the electrician put in the new fan he left power going through the old controller. Luckily it just cut power off and did not trip the breaker or start a fire. There is one more of the old fan controllers and it will be gone real fast.
Thanks for the help.
