I do agree that with ALL these dog registries, with their special criterias n standards for a paticular breed, it has n will continue to water down the dogs even further. Case in point to the 2 i got out of guthrie ok, good color n confirmation n looks, as explained in the "what a typical bmc should look like", they were as usefull as teets on a boar hog

   ukc and nkc both accept the Catahoula in their registry's , I don't mess with many akc dogs so I don't know about them . bout the only akc dogs I have ever owned were beagles .  but the akc has come a long way with their hunting trials but are mainly still a  [ show ] breed registry .  more on conformation not so much the hunt  .

This is just my observation, experience, and opinion. Curs come in every size, shape, and color. It all just depends on what state, county, or ranch your from. Some have more nose, some have more bite, and some have more herding instinct. To me a good cur has a balance of all 3 of those traits. They were bred to be an all around dog that could gather stock, hunt for food, and protect families.

I think I saw my first Cur up here yesterday. Customer had it in his truck at the scrapyard and it looked to me like a bmc mixed with several other breeds. I asked the owner and he said that she had some pit, Labrador and some sort of hound mixed in her.
