i'm like you firemedic  , I eat my hogs like a banana , just peal um and eat um  lol , and I have had many people tell me they won't eat a boar hog .  but have changed their minds after I snuck them in on them after I smoked them .  but the wild boars will have a stronger flavor and a stonger smell to the meat especially when made into pan sausage and fried indoors and that distinct smell is what turns some folks away .

I guess that may be the reason I don't get the whole 'boar hog' smell thing Halfbreed,....I very rarely have any of the hog meat I get made into sausage.....I'm not a real big fan of sausage, I prefer bacon much more, so I don't eat much sausage at all. I can see where frying it from a boar hog might be a bit more odiferous though.....lol.

I for one can taste a boar hog unless i soak the meat in ice water with a little white vinegar. The boar meat that has not been treated the way above will have a strong twang to it. To me it kinda tastes the way strong pee smells. I have talked to a few people that swear that it dont taste any different to them. But to me it does FOR SURE.

I've had people tell me they couldn't tell a difference and I went and hunted in their area and the hogs really didn't stink. I've killed some that obviously had a lot of Russian in them and they didn't stink. I really think it has a lot to do with genetics

put the meat in an ice chest with some lemon juice and salt , [ not much ] and leave the drain valve open and keep adding ice as needed for a couple days and you are good to go .. me I like the gamey taste in a boar hog .  kinda like folks wanna know how to get the fishy taste out of fish  ?  .  and then there's the old advice I give everybody , throw it on the smoker and let it cook , when done right it taste mighty fine   lol .
im with halfbreed put him in a cooler ive kept them in a cooler and added ice for about 5to6 days the meat comes out pretty and white

Cut and release

I thought the only reason to cut and release was to win hog hunting tournaments.... Grin
