We decided to hunt the grain fields. My wife NormaJean along with hunting buddies Justin, Randy and his nephew. The first few grain fields were cut and not much happening in them. So we go to another one that hadn't been cut. Randy tells us that there is a pond in the back and it's full of gators. I told him that is the only place I hope we don't end up. As we are driving the edges, we get to the pond and shine the lights down in there and all you could see where gator eyes. Randy's two dogs bale of the hood and head out in the grain but come back in a few minutes. After we reach the end of the property, we head back to the gate. We get within a couple hundred yards of the gate and Randy who is in front of us throws on the brakes and comes to my truck and tells us about a big hog that just crossed in front of him going north which puts us in the wrong direction fro the dogs to wind him. I unload my Red Dog along with Mouse. Randy's nephew walks through the grain with the dogs. In a few minutes about 200 yards west, my mouse dog goes to baying then silence. We wait for a few minutes and then we hear all the dogs go to baying about another 300 yards west of where they last were. I drive as close as I can but we are still a good 200 yards away. I cut loose my 2 catchdogs as does Randy. We hear a fight and we head that way. Before we can get to them, all goes silent. I wait for a few minutes then head back to the truck to look at my garmin. My catchdog Suzy is there and so is all of Randy's dogs. I look at the garmin and it shows Red Dog, Mouse and Rascal all running back west. I tell NormaJean we need to hurry that way as the alligator pond is in that direction. We drive over to the pond which is 1/2 mile away. Turn the truck off and you can hear the fight down in the alligator pond. We head that way. The dogs are a about 20 feet in but it is a giant mud hole at this end. The nephew goes in and can hardly move, Justin tries to help but bogs down after it goes over his knees. I start in and Justin is 5 foot in front of me and I see something coming from my left. I look over and about a 5 foot gator comes between Justin and I. I hollar for Randy and NormaJean to bring my gun. I get to the hog and commence to stabbing it but can't really hit him where I need to because he is sunk down in the mud. Randy shines the light around us and we have 13 gators all within 10 foot of us. Got me a little nervous there but the hog finally died and everyone helped to pull us out. What a crazy and wild hunt. Rascal was cut up but nothing life threatening.
