I have a 06 Chevy z71 and transmission is goin out. Truck only has 87k miles. Question is will a transmission out of 3/4 ton fit in half ton. Can't remember what kind it is but guy has one says it has all same plugs and will bolt up to mine. Just wondering if any transmission guys are on here could shed some light on the issue

I'm not 100% sure but I had a buddy do a 6.0 swap in a Chevy and he had to have an adapter plate and his computer tuned for it to shift correctly

If the cross members r the same, the eng n xmsn r the same n the t-case bolts up the same, the swap will b fine. Everything has to b the same including programming or u'll hav to use an adapter plate for the eng-xmsn n xmsn -t-case n get reprogram the xmsn computer to the shift points required for ur tck. It would b safe to say though that if the stuff is the same, it'll work just fine.

He said it will all bolt up an plug in. Only difference he says are inside components. I'm just worried bout computer problems. To have it rebuilt will be 1500 an he wants 700 for this one. It has 67k miles on it came out of wrecked truck

The computer should b able to adjust the shift points n that could b achieved with a performance programmer or it may just bolt up n work just fine. The xmsn out of the 3/4tn was programmed for med-heavy pulling so ur shift points will be set for a different rpm range. Again, it will probably work with no issues other than different rpm range shifts which u would hav to get used to n it may shift a lil harder than the old 1. That 3/4tn xmsn will probably hav a different gearing so u mite get a lil crappier fuel milage.

I wouldn't do it you will be running into a lot of extra expense, like both drive shafts will have to be remade or buy new ones. I work at a transsmission shop and have ran into things that people have tried to rig up. It will end up costing the same.

I agree with lbk. By the time you are done i would bet you will be close to 1500 in the event you have to buy an adapter plate and have the trucks transmission reprogrammed, plus that transmission has 67k on it already, if yours is  rebuilt correctly you will essentially have a new transmission.....just my .02. Good luck with it whichever way you go!

What engine do you have in your truck and what year is it and what year and engine are in the truck you are looking to swap it out of.

About 99% sure the swap will be a piece of cake. All the ls engines have the same trans bolt pattern

Should bolt right up no problem. Only difference may be driveshaft yokes but you can take those off yours and put em on it. Main difference is gonna be suspension on those two trucks
