This picture was posted on my wife's face book by one of her friends in North Zulch Texas. We have heard stories about these cats around in this area, mainly down on the river bottom. Thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share it.  |

X2, was thinkn the same thing. I can hear it now "thats photo shopped, thats in south america, there aint any black panthers in tx except for the zoo and so forth". |

what i find entertaining, is how it is always black.
only 6% percent of the jaguar population is melanistic.
why are there never any sightings of leopard spotted cats?
south and east texas is the historical range of jaguars (panthera onca)
so it is not unbelievable that there could be a sighting of a drifter at some point or another.
there is a small population of jaguars south of tuscon, arizona.
but black ones? it would stand to reason that for every six black panther sightings there would be NINTEY FOUR leopard spotted jaguar sightings.
if ya'll are referring to black mountain lions, there has never been a documented melanistic mountain lion.
while that doesn't mean there isn't one, or one never existed, it DOES mean the odds of seeing one is extremely, extremely rare. practically non existent.
so in either case, both lion and jaguar, the frequency of the sightings and the actual numbers DO NOT add up.
that appears to be a jag in the picture, by the way.

I saw one in Cleveland tx, not tryna sound like a Sasquatch Sighter But im 100% I saw one got to see him less than 30yrds for a few minutes in the wide open. He definitely wasn't the size of that one yall got posted in that picture. Prolly around 40-50lbs and real long tail, yellow eyes n the light.

I have seen 1 before in the wild in around Alvin but i found out he use to be some ones pet that got out that dude gots lots of cat but i know he cut back on his numbers now but the black cat is still jumping across a spot by his house. I don't hunt down by his house any more but sure would hate to have my dogs trash on it probable would be the last too! |

I wonder how come with all the deer hunters and just hunters in general no one out of several thousand maybe million people I don't know the number of hunters, no one has a picture of one that's been killed.

I Googled Black couger sightings & the above pic. showed up as a pic. taken by a lady in La. Wildlife & fisheries came out with a cardboard silhouette of a couger & put it where the lady said she saw it & took pics. They then confirmed that the above pic. was a black house cat. I tried to copy the link but it will not let me paste it.

I think that the majority of sightings are false. for one why is the puma del Norte and Jaguar negro so allusive once they cross into states their not supposed to be in. I mean they can be found in their native land and even killed by hunters who consider it good fun. but become ghost as soon as they get around where they aren't supposed to be and people who would pay money to hunt one in it's native land suddenly get so frightened that they never hunt that spot again when a cat is sighted around the house.I believe in cougars I've seen one. but im just saying someone would have killed one by now but who knows maybe they are really skin walkers and thats why people get so freaked out by them when they are spotted out of their native territory.Maybe the black ones are supernatural creatures and thats why people feel like someone stepped on their grave when they see a cat.  |

I have seen 1 big cat in my life. At the time I would have swore it was black. I was young and it spooked the mess out of me. Looking back I still say it was a big cat. Although due to the time of day being foggy at distance it very well coulda been a regular panther. Either way I still wouldn't want to run into it in the dark.
