What's some good all around skinning knives? About all I use mine for are hogs and rabbit. Occasionally a deer is thrown in. The knife I have now ain't much good. What yall recommend?

I personally love my case knives but the havalon knives are amazing for skinning and you dont have to worry about a dull blade, they are worth every penny!

I use either an eye brand, or handmade knife I picked up in Germany when we had to pl there for a crapped out engine on our way hm from Iraq. its really personal preference though, a lot of different opinions, but I grew up around eye brands, they last for ever and hold an edge for a long time, even just sitting in the closet waiting on something to die to use it on. my dad used 1 for over 20yrs skinning deer, beaver, rabbits, possums, squirrels n so forth, and finally the blade got so thin, he had to buy another 1 and its been 15yrs since he bought that 1 n its still goin strong

Charles the eye brand is German made as well right? Kind of a case type knife? And Justin I looked at the havalon, yours have a small skinny blade like that? Can't say I've saw one like that before

Yes, it is a german made knife, out of soligen (sp) germany and yes the look like a case sod buster n iv had both n ended up staying with eye brand bc that paticular sod buster wouldnt hold an edge just carring it in my pocket but it could have been that paticular knife didnt temper as well as others.

svord are the best value for money knives anywhere...IMO...handmade in New Zealand and not expensive at all....
google svord skinner or svord farmers knife...they do an awesome pig sticker too..

I use my case trappers BUT i have cleaned deer with a havalon and seen 9 deer cleaned with em at one time and will attest to how sharp they are, my buddy replaces his blade every 2 deer or 1 hog and it stays super sharp. the blades are cheap and they make one slightly thicker for skinning bigger animals, they are awesome if you dont want to deal with sharpening your knife lol. |

EYE Brand or tree brand for me I keep two or three on me all the time. Eye brand don't make them anymore but can still find them online!

Ii had heard eye brand stopped making knives, guess i better order a couple extra for the future. Heck, if i can get 15yrs out of each knife, i can loose/brake 1 n still have 45yrs of knive life. |

Yep and the boker tree brand i believe is a very close comparison to the eye brand. I have a tree brand sodbuster type that i like, just not as much as my case lol

If your not wanting to spend much money, thus is the only way to go i got two of them they hold a good edge and are only 15 dollars. Little bit hard to find. Don't just think 15 dollars its a piece of crap because its not i promise ya.and happy Thanksgiving to everyone  |

Gerber is made in the USA and is a good skinning knife...but if have used the case xxx trappers for many years...
