My girlfriend has some blue heeler pups on the way,and she wants the tails bobbed.I would rather do this than pay a vet to do it.I really don't know how you would go about it properly so was wondering if someone on here could help me out and give me some pointers.
One time one of my curs had some pups that their tales were getting infected soI used a sharp knife and a hammer.I only cut about half of their tales off and we they grew you couldn't really tell.Would I do the same thing For cutting the whole tail off?Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I know the little disposable scalpes work better then a knife and hammer, but how much to cut off I don't know. I remember some saying the sooner you do it (few days after birth) the better

Like having my own little fuzzy convict, he steals, is violent and from what I saw him doing to his teddy bear obviously sexually frustrated.

Dock them at 2-3 days old...sharp knife or utility blade will work. I just put their butt up against a 2x4, 4x4, or some other suitable block of wood and start cuttin'. A little of the styptic powder and put them back with momma dog and she'll take care of the rest.

MY GRAND DAD WAS A VET AND HE WOULD COME OVER AND PINCH AND TWIST, POPS THE TAILS RIGHT OFF.  THEN HE WOULD PUT SOME SORT OF WHITE POWDER ON THEM TO STOP THE BLEEDING.  NOT A LOT OF BLOOD THOUGH.
