It depends, you could put a 55 gallon  drum in the ground for a tank ( cut the bottom out and drill a bunch of holes throughout the sides and fill the bottom with rock) and then go to your Home Depot or lowes and purchase the drain field material....prolly a couple hundred bucks depending on how many and how long of lines you put in or if you go through a septic company and purchase a concrete tank and have them run your lines cost, a few thousand. I have  a 1050 gallon concrete tank and 440 sf of drain field. It will run a 4000sf home. Luckily for me I grew around a septic company too and it cost me nothing

Each pen has concrete block walls, the slab is slanted from front to back and then from right to left. Each wall has a 3"x3" hole in the bottom of the block at the back so that all the poo sprays to the back of the pen. It then flows down the back wall through the hole and into the pen to the left. Repeat on that pen until the very last pen. Then I have a drain box with a grate built into it on the top. I formed it in prior to poring my slab so it is flush with the slab. Spray poo into drain and it flows into the septic. If I confused you I can take pictures for reference. It works awesome. No poo touches outside of the pens and there is minimal smell. Only thing you really smell is what don't get sprayed out of the drain box.

Sounds pretty complex. My concrete is already there is only prob. I like the idea of the 55 gallon drum. But how fast will it drain out of the 55 gallon drum

my wife or I shovel poop every day and wash down...I have a five gallon bucket with a kitchen type trash bag as a liner and the bucket has a lid on it and that is where the poop goes(daily)...I then dump the bag in the trash can where it gets picked up every Monday and Thursday...I buy my 5 gallon buckets at Home Depot when it needs replacing...

If you keep the solids from going in the drum it will drain fast, shovel your pup into a five gallon bucket everyday and dump that somewhere when it fills up. The way skeptics work is once the tank fills up it the water level stays just below the pipe that exits the tank feeding the drain field. Once you start spraying water the level rises and then flows into your drain field. Then gets absorbed into the ground. If you go the with a drum and a drain field dig a hole for your drum. Only cut the bottom out don't drill holes. Fill the bottom of the hole with rock then set your drum. Fill rock all around the drum to the top of the drum and then cover the rest up with dirt.( might want to leave it so that you can open the drum if something gets clogged you will have access to it). When you plum from your pens use 3" pipe. Plum to the top of one of the sides. On the other side of the drum use 3" pipe however go 1.5" lower then the first pipe so that it doesn't back up as the water level rises to flow into the drain field. Then when you put your drain field in make sure you give it 1"-2" of fall for every 10' of drain field. Good luck to you. Lot of hard work if you don't know what your doing or not a handy man

I have 16 dogs between my curs and hounds so I gotta lot of poo to take care of. If it weren't for a septic I wouldn't keep dogs at my place.
