Beware. People that are new to the dog buying world or even someone that's n a bind for a dog. Do not buy a dog straight up on a man's word. Do not buy a dog on"trial" even if it's n writing. He'll take your money and never look back. Idc if it's a $200 help dog. Do not give a man your hard earned money till u seen the dog hunt or catch n the real woods.  Or a pen Dog n a pen. There's been a lot of bad dog peddlers going around lately. It's easy to buy a smooth talker. I'm willing to say anyone that's bought dogs on trial or a man's word had been screwed prolly more than once. I've been popped twice myself. If a man ain't willing to show the dog n the woods that's a red flag AND if u just gotta do a trial if he Won't let u come to his house that's another red flag.  Bought 2 dogs last weekend on the spot n the woods after I seen what they'd do. I'm kinda re-enstating what ETHD policy says.  Yes there's some honest guys out there selling dogs but there is more liars that call themselves hog hunters that take your money. They figured out there's some suckers n this industry and some easy money to b made on dumpster dogs or their culls. Bottom line don't trust what they tell u. Take the time and go see what that dog will do.

LAhogger...you are absolutely right...even when buying anything else...

if I sell a dog...it will not be a cull...if I sell a pup there are no gauruntees...

I would like the money up front but will refund if the dog does not satisfy...I very seldom sell a dog or pup...usually give pups away when I have them...a good reason why I am not a business man...  Smiley

back in 2007 I sold three 10 month old pups that were going to be as good as they get and one was already a star and I sold a package deal 500 dollars for the three...dogs of the style I like...

A dog man is not in it for the money...just the way I see it...

Nope a honest dog man isn't n it for money. Let's say I sell a finished jam up hog dog at 4 years old for $1,500. Think about all the food. Wormer. Meds. Vet bills possibly. Fuel.  Housing and so on that I spent on that dog n the past 4 years. I'm sure it adds up more than $1,500. A dog thief on the other hand will pick up a dog that semi has the look of a hog dog and put all kinds of promises that cannot be filled with that dog and stick yo money n his pocket.

that's good advice !  but just remember that there are I'm sure way more honest folks selling dogs than the dog peddlers , you just don't here about them , only the bad deals .  in my youth people would be embarrassed to talk about getting snookered on a dog or horse deal . it's been going on for century's   lol  .   just be carefull as you can , just like buying a used car .

Buy in the woods is the only way NOT to get shafted even if it sounds like a legit excuse be can't hunt. Even if he says yea I'll take u this weekend then he says but I have someone coming to buy them Friday. That's just a ploy for u to drop what your doing and come get em. Yes there r good dog people out there too.

Most people are not going to sell a good dog this time of year anyway. It's time most people are hunting their dogs have been laid up all deer season and it's time to hunt them now. I wouldnt have fed a dog all year and sell it now. And for the people buying dogs. If it's a good dog it's not ever going to make it to the internet classifieds regardless of price. It's so many people looking for dogs now, if it was a hog dog word of mount would have it sold in less than a hour.

Sonny

I have known one hog hunter that bought dogs before grain season and when that was over he sold them and repeated the process the following year...

I say beware of the man that has nothing but good things to say about a dog. If it was that good u wouldn't be buying it.

Usually if u sleep on the conversation and think about it you'll remember some things about the dog that didn't line up with his story.

If you have good friends like I do, alot of us wouldn't have to purchase a hunting
dog.. I have been blessed to have buddies who would pass down
their best dog to me if I got in a jam. I would get a pup to start with that finished
dog to get back going again.. I would do the same for them!

Haven't purchase a hunting dog yet, I have purchased pups that I made
into hunting dogs but that's it.

I hate to hear that their are people out their taking advantage of others
who work hard and save up to purchase that dog and get burned!!!
