Wanting opinions on how to acquire landowner permission.  Is it ok to leave a well-worded note on a gate, or would that be considered bad form??  Seen loads of hog sign on these places I'm wanting to try to contact.  Any suggestions are welcome.  Thanks y'all

Sometimes potential hunting land has no house/s near by or the owners dont live in the state. Well in my area thats the way the crop land is.

Just riding around with the dogs in the box has gotten me quite a few places. Or I like to get on the appraisal site and find the largest land owners and find there phone numbers and call em. ( Works sometimes).

Ive used the tax collector's website to find the person who owns the land.  it will also give their home address if they don't live on the land.  The couple places I did it for the people were on google and I found their email address since they lived out of state.

I'm new to the sport and was wondering the same as the OP.

Lots of good ideas so far.

Does anyone know if someone's ever tried to make a website for 'hobbyist' hunters to get in touch with landowners with hog problems.  I know there are plenty of sites where people who have 'businesses' per se but not for the 'weekend' warrior so to speak.

I was thinking of something like a simple forum, like this one where JOE BOB landowner could post, "I have a ton of hogs I want off my property".  Even a separate forum on this site might work but someone with more computer knowhow than me would need to make it the first thing that pops up for say a Google search for "free hog removal". 

Just a thought.

On a separate topic.  Don't a lot of deer leases want hogs off their property and do they just hire the 'pros' or are they ever looking for free removal?

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea for a lot of leases to open up to hog doggers.  Could make some extra money plus keep hogs off their feeders.  For those of us without the connections and places to hunt it would be nice to have a place we could pay a small fee ($20 per day or something) to hunt, while at the same time helping to keep hogs managable.

I've left my card on gates of places I wanted to hunt, and also at feed stores and sale barns. I also put an ad to trap for the land owners that let me hunt and take the pigs to the buyer for them, for their profit and only charge gas.

Where there is a crop there is a farm hand. If not there is a grain dryer or seed store or tractor dealer or parts house. These are the places u contact farmers. Get to know people at these places if u want on farm land. When u ask to hunt ask the land owner or one of his men to join u. Like this he don't have to give u a key and he is more comfortable letting an unknown person have access to the thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff that could come up missing. This is a real concern with farmers. If he or his man joins u it helps u as well also. He knows the area hogs frequent. He probly knows where they were this morning or even a few hours before u got there. If u have a runner he knows which way to go to get to them. He knows where u can cross drains or fences u don't,

Thanks for all the suggestions.  So far the places i had/have has been due to good old fashioned word of mouth, but i lost several options during divorce and trying to build back up.  Definitely going to get some cards made up now, and make a nice lil ol "flyer" to go with the card for these fenced and gated places.  Tax website sounds promising as well.  I appreciate all the feedback Smiley
