I am the first to say a good dog does not need to hunt much...that is true for the well bred dog that was born to hunt...hunt the pack once in a while and they will strike hogs left and right and even when there aren't many in an area...I still believe that...and feeding them tracks can only make them better...but to catch hogs consistently the dogs need to hunt on a regular basis in as many different terrains as possible...
experience/confidence...staying in good running shape...equals less of a chance to fall out of the race due to over exertion and less of a chance to heat stroke...learning to solve problems and keep the track moving...all this improves from feeding tracks more often...I would be happy to run em once a week...6 times a month would be perfect for me...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

Reuben I've just recently got a small spot and I've been taken my 1 1/2 year old male out there once a week I believe he struck something last week but couldn't stop it he was all over the place I never heard any barking he was gone for more then hour. My gps would say treed but every time would head that way he would start moving. I've been pretty happy with how he's hunting in the last few weeks. Seems to be picking it up. I had got worried that he was depending on the other dogs to strike hogs. Before I got my spot I was only going out once a month with my buddy but like you said they need to be out there to get better. Hopefully we get something soon.

Why should I trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away? An elected legislature can trample a man's rights as easily as a king can!
