This was almost 16 years ago. Back when I lived off hw 94 in Hudson Tx. It was just another day like any other, summer ment no school and I either had a .22 or a fishing pole. Went down to the pond behind the house with my 202 zebco and a tackle box full of bass baits. I had fished this pond my whole life and caught nothing but bass and big perch. I had been fishing for about 30 mins and on this cast I had a rattle trap that was so heavy I could throw it across to the other bank ha, but ha to real it super fast from all the moss on the bottom. I was reeling like crazy when I felt something that was strange for this pond. A bite that was more like I hit a log, but then the rod bends almost in half. I start to hauler for my dad (in shock) and I can see him coming to the surface and it's huge!! I get him to the bank and by then my dad had ran down to the pond from his shop(thinking I was dying from a snake bite) he sees the fish and jobs in knee and grabs it in the gills. He picks up the op and the bait falls out of its mouth haha. It was just hooked behind its lip. Put him on the scale and it weighed a little over 16lbs caught with a 202 zebco and 3/4 oz rattle trap haha. We fried that sucker up that same evening after I walked up the hill and showed aunts, uncles, grandparents lol.

That's pretty cool.  Did you ever catch any other cat fish in that pond after?

Very next day caught a 6 channel cat on the same lure haha. Never caught another one after that. My grandpaw Kenneth and great uncles had put tons of catfish/op out of the neches back in the day before I came around. My da. Said there no tellin how big that op would've been in a lake. I was sure proud of him tho ha

Honestly don't know. We had him in the grease before we came across a scale. Had him in a 55 barrel with his head on the bottom and his tail came out the top about 10 inches

Only thing I can think would be eating on a 15 lbs blue (alive) would be a gator or gator gar. Well I had some big turtles eat some good cats off the line but not one over 7-8Lbs. Never know, mabe a river monster haha

It didn't have teeth marks. It looks like a op swollen him an couldn't get him off the line.
