Well my cd is getting up in age... 8yrs prob gonna retire him soon... With that being said the search for a new cd will start soon but this time I want to add some serious speed... Not looking for a pure bred dog but a cross... Bulldog/grayhound something like that... Anyone breed any other crosses for some fast CDs?

My ridgeback pit is as fast as any dog I own. He will find run and catch or u can send him or lead him in. Leading him in ain't much fun.

I use a Stag and a StagXPit/Dane. Also have some 2 week old pups on the ground that are StagXDogo/Pit.

How far you cutting him loose from? Figured a dogo pit cross would be supper fast at say 100 yards. Mine are fast enough and I really don't want to cut them loose at a greater distance. Just my oppinion

A good leggy pit is fast or faster than most dogs in side 150 yards

I send catch dogs in at about 20 or 30 yards... Now I have sent the stag out on some open field pigs before.

Will a stag hold like a good bull dog or do you need to cross them?

My stag does great. Been using him as a lead-in for a couple years now and never had a problem

Kerrey truth is 9 out of ten strait stags won't catch and are like gritty curs. Chad has a great dog from great lines but on average it takes going through a couple dogs to get a consistent line nailed down.

I really don't want a pure pit I know they work great I've had some good ones... I usually cut from 100-200 depending on what's going on but I want something I can cut loose in a field ... Yesterday for instance we had a hog run right by the truck with the strike dogs in his butt I sent my cd right away and we got out run... Not mad at my dogs it happens my cd is up in age

Thanks for the compliment on this dog. I have no idea on his breeding (although I have tried to find some good info). I really have no experience with any other Stags but I have heard a lot of stories about Stags not being as "hard, if ya will" as this one... Judging from my last cross this adage may be true. Keep in mind the mother of this litter ended up being a cull. Out of four pups only one of them caught and had the temperament I liked (I gave one to an "ex" friend and judging from the videos I've seen on FB, she's a cull in my book). My recent cross is from a proven gyp so hopefully I end up with more than one decent pup...

Different strokes for different folks but I like to come in as soon as my catch dogs hit in order to minimize possible damage by a good hog.

I will say this... In the daylight I can't remember ever getting "out ran" after I released the Stag. The bay might break or he misses but the race is VERY short. Now night time is a different story. He will come back if the bay breaks.
