They are trying to go about making them illegal to own in Texas. They passed some stupid law that you cant keep a chicken on a rope or in a cage. I could off a little on that law. It snuck up on me. I do not like the government taking away my right to pursue happiness as I define it. Animals are animals not people. Animals should not be protected under the law.

now this is a post that hits home. i had gamefowl for over 25 years and havent had em for about 10 yrs now. i actually went to mike ratliffs cockers school in menlo georgia about 32 years ago.i sported birds at least once in tennesee, alabama, georgia, some in arizona, tons in california and a decent amount in oregon i was a vice president of our state gamefowl breeders association for several years and also helped run a sporting club here for many years. i also reffereed zillions of birds.i think i owned some of about every family known to man at one time or another ,lol.and i think the most roosters i ever had at once was about 200 or so. i had a real good family of lollyd minor blues( white or yellow legs only) for quite a while till between the thieves and the varmints i lost em. i had some good fowl from dan grey too( kelsos, coons, and a few battles cocks from him we used to breed) but my favorites were my family of chets i had  for many years. these birds  were great crossers and put cut in about anything. the chets crossed to the dan grey birds made me  alot of chicken feed in the short knife.

Thanks for the comments and compliments on the birds everyone. That is my wife and bro in law with some of his roosters in Utah. I just wish I would have met my wife a few years earlier so I could have got to go to some of the shows. Between her father raising roosters, greyhounds, and race horses, she is way more redneck(or "country" as she likes to say) than I ever thought about being. And I couldnt be happier about it. I know less about game birds than I do about hog dogs, and that ain't much. But I am positive that if they were still legal I would  have a yard full of them. And i know without a doubt that my father in law would. He said he sold all of his pretty much the day they outlawed them. Not because he wanted to, he just didnt want to break any laws. Most of his trophies are from the Salina Game Club, or Texoma. But I know he fought them all over Oklahoma. One of my wives favorite stories to tell is when she met Wilfred Brimley(actor and the quaker oats guy) at some fights in OK. She said he was there with some of his own birds showing them in the contests. Just goes to show you it wasnt just for the backwoods folks. Like I said i was just interested to see if anyone else was into this, and apparently there are u bunch of you.

My wife is the same way, grew up around roosters all her life, know more about roosters than i ever will.

You would be amazed how many people still keep chickens and show them, thats what amazes me, is how they ever got it outlawed with that many people for it. Kinda like these stupid dog and breed laws, nobody wants to get involved, i guess. Dont think it will happen to them.

I had game chickens for a long time. I still have some old whitehackles, some claret, some butcher stuff, a few Albany hens and pulleys, and some old miner blue stuff and some hatch birds. I really like the gaff, but for some reason it seems like everyone was doing the short knife thing when they decided to stop it in Oklahoma.
