a friend of mine lost 4 dogs in a couple days...all were in their prime and healthy...this man catches lots of hogs so could have been transmitted from a hog...
The symptoms were matted eyes, drooling of the mouth, diarrhea that was very watery with a milky substance and blood in it...some dogs were sick and made it but these four passed pretty quick...he chloroxed the area and moved the other dogs out for a while...he gave 6 cc's daily of some antibiotic he uses, injected for 5 days...he thinks the remaining dogs will be fine...
was thinking possibly Pseudorabies...but not sure...

Hmmm...well...all the symptoms but the milky substance and blood are the exact same my BA-IV pup had before I lost her.
My Jasper and Bella dogs (kenneled right next to pup) started going down to and I treated them for coccidiosis and that fixed them.
I had bought a few shorts the week before and worked with that pup. A couple died of those shorts died shortly after.
The coccidiosis is normally spread by birds/chickens from what I understand....not sure if pigs carry it or not. Just food for thought.

I'd run a few doses of Albon through the remaining dogs....if it doesn't do the trick it certainly won't hurt....

Sounds like coccid, or parvo. I lost a blue tick pup and a dogo, with the dogo being 6-7 months old. I also had to put a BMC pup down a week later from the same symptoms. 3 parvo tests came back negative so I was thinking parvo so I had a necropsy done and cultures sent to a&m and it came back parvo. I lost the dogo and blue tick in less than 3 days. This chit killed fast.

his dogs were between 1.5 and 3 years old and were up to date on vaccines...the other dogs made it ok...it is kind of unusual...never have I heard of healthy dogs dying in less than 2 days...I didn't think Parvo because usually younger dogs that don't make it...unless it is that new strain I have read about on here...thanks for the input...

Hey Reuben...that coccidiosis took that pup (5 months) down in 5 days...three of which I didn't even know it was sick....I was out of town.
It was taking the young adults down just as fast. They probably wouldn't have lasted another couple days if I didn't catch it.

What part of the county is he in Rueben? Sounds exactly like what killed one 4 month old pup at my house and almost killed a grown pup.

Reuben, a&m said that what killed my dogo was a more aggressive virus but same dna structure as the virus from 5yrs ago and hardly shows up with these parvo tests. There was a guy down the road who lost several bull dogs from exact same symptoms as what u described and the same symptoms that got my blue n dogo pup. This guy bulls were between 1yr n 3yrs.
The strange thing is though, i had a litter of bmcs on the ground and had gotten rid of all but 2, and even in the same kennel, the male had to be put down but the fm lived.

Ruben, you assure your friend it is not psuedorabies. I have lost 12 dogs over the years to psuedo and that is not the way they go down. They will start scratching their head & then root the ground with the side of their head.Death will follow within 24hrs.It is a horrible death to watch.pseudo effects the lining of their brain & that is what makes them tear up their head, rubbing and scratching their head. The old folks used to call it the"MAD ITCH"

Sounds like cocidious. Know the spelling is wrong but at least in other animals this is the exact same thing I have seen with them.

not ever had cocci take down grown healthy dogs . a grown dogs immune system has enough good bacteria in it's gut to deal with cocci . sounds like something bad maybe a poison or salmanila . I would be checking my feed unless they came in from a hunt and then went down . maybe got a bad mold in the feed .

Robert it was taking Bella and Jasper (over a year old) down at the same time it took that BA-IV pup down. I treated it like I would coccidiosis and they bounced back within 4 days for Bella...7 for Jasper. Can't be certain it was coccidiosis but the treatment worked anyway.

This right here, very well could be, I bought feed from a new place in his neck of the woods just before the illness hit my yard.
