I have a 99 Superduty I bought new and have never had many issues with it but my wife ran it out of fuel a couple weeks ago. I took it to a mechanic buddy and he bled the injectors and changed out the fuel filter but his diagnostic tool couldn't pinpoint the issue it still had and it was missing. So I took it to our Ford dealer and they said bad injector on #4 cylinder. So changed that out and still missing. Now they say that the module is shot and Ford no longer supports this so they found one back east at another dealership for $900 plus $300 to install. What I'm sayin is I am now into this about $2500 and won't get the truck till next week. Feelin a little bent over! And don't dare say too much to wife cause she's tired of my complaining about her dumb move. So now you guys got to hear me vent.

Put on your big girl panties, grab your ankles and take it.   You should be used to it driving a ford for 15 yrs.

Make the dealership eat the cost and labor for the supposed bad injector and if module don't fix it, make them eat those costs too. They r just throwing parts at it in hopes of fixing the problem.

The dodge dealership tried that with me when my Tck started acting an ass. I knew the issue was in the tank and told them that, but they  decided to do their own diagnosis, which is fine if they would have stayed in the tank area. They chose to tell me the cp3 pump was weak and I had a clogged rail. I called bs, told them to go to the tank. There they said the lift pump was bad. I told them to clean and test the pump. They'd test the pump and tell me it's low on output psi by 150psi. I ask him if it was tested clean or as it sits, and he says as it sits. I go up there n talk to both the mech, service writer and manager all at the same time so there were no miscommunications after I left.
After cleaning the pump, wow, it's a miracle, the pump worked with in normal parameters, and then they tell me me my inlet line at the filter housing is bad and want to sell it and install it for me. I ask why they think I need I need a new line, and it was bc the plastic .25c clip that holds the line onto the inlet nipple was broke and half was missing and u can get just the clip and it was leaking fuel. I ask they are sure it is the line since it wasn't leaking when I brought it to them. We'll come to find out, it was even the line after all, it was the o ring at the filter housing cap that they must have cut during their diagnosis and didn't find this out till after I get home. Thank goodness I still had the other o ring from when I changed the filter at the beginning of the ordeal.

Moral of my story. The dealerships don't have technicians as they claim, they have parts changers. Hold their feet to the fire and tell the dealership if it doesn't fix the issue, they will eat the cost of all the work they'd have been doing to just throw parts at it

I have a 1999 superduty as well that I bought in 1998...love that old noisy 7.3 diesel...have changed the batterys 3 or 4 times and one alternator and both front ball joints...transmission went out but was my fault...pulling heavy load at high speed and not enough cooling for tranny...

I also did have a low fuel problem and it cost me some money replacing sensors that the computer picked up...the fuel problem happened at 3/8th tank each time it happened...I usually fill up before I ran my tank that kow...so it took a while for me to figure out my problem...a mechanic finally told me what my problem was and it happens quite a bit with that truck...their is some device that goes out and the truck starts missing and shuts down right about at 3/8th fuel in the tank...the first time we analyzed my truck it picked up 3 sensors which I had replaced...took me a little while to figure out my problem...I added fuel then cleared the faults and my truck ran fine after that...that is when I learned that just because the the computer runs the diagnostics and picks up all those problems does not mean it is so...add fuel and clear the codes and that might be all that is wrong with the truck...

I had filled the tank and cleaned the screen in the tank and had the codes cleared several times. It still missed  and that's why I went to dealer. The truck has been good to me up to now and has not cost too much. But I have put a tranny in and some front end parts but that's about it. It just ticks me off that Ford quit makin the module so whoever bought em up can charge whatever they want at this point. I don't know enuf about computers to know if I'm getting smoke blown up my arse! And thanks Jody, it's nice to know I can count on you to kick a guy when he's down. LOL!
